Is that spreadsheet still valid in 1.11/1.12? I'm asking this because the act2 max lvl aura is different for each difficulty and I had the idea that difficulty didn’t matter…

Difficulty does indeed matter. Mercs hired on the lower difficulties will have better stats then their later counterparts. The only thing which has changed since patch 1.10 is that mercs are now hired around the same level as your character, which means you're better off hiring a normal merc than a hell one (though if you want a NM specific aura then you don't have a choice).
It should also be noted that what is displayed on the merc hire screen isn't 100% accurate either. You'll probably notice the stats will be different (and more accurate) once you actually hire the merc.
