Accident or in retaliation to fake photos you decide...

So the Israelis just shot up a Reuters news vehicle just kind of makes you wonder...doesn't it?

It looks pretty bad but I'm far from sure that was on purpose. These things happen every now and then. I know some people who are a bit suspicious of Israel and think they might shoot a journalist every now and then to keep them out of certain areas, but that doesn't sound very plausible to me. For one thing, it wouldn't have any chance of actually working. And, it would alienate every journalist in the world, which makes it a bad PR move. Besides, why would the Israelis want revenge for the faked photos? When people found out they were faked, that was the biggest PR win for Israel in years. No ammount of their money or effort could have bought them anything like that. If I was them I'd gived an impression of righteous indignation in public while opening the champagne in private, laughing my *** off.

Nevertheless... journalists need to be off limits. Even if it's an accident it's still a bad thing when the press is killed, kidnapped, intimidated, et cetera.

I agree that it most likely wasn't on purpose to do that would be rather stupid on Isreal's part, but still I find it disapointing that 2 missles can't distroy an armored car. Makes me want an armored car if ever I get called up to fight a war again.

The Army. Thats where its at.

I was but a poor lil mostly blood-stained medic. I never set foot in anything that left the ground. Not counting some freakish landing crafts where your very life depended on holding on to an iron ring while it skipped along the waves.

If it's between idiocy and conspiracy, I always suspect idiocy.

In the trunk! Nobody checked the trunk!

Never attribute to malice what simple incompetence can explain.

Probably because it wasn't a direct hit.

Still. It was 2 missiles aimed at one target and both are either so weak they couldnt destroy it or so inaccurant that they couldnt hit it.

Either way Im sure hezbollah sleeps well tonight feeling safer than ever.

Meh, they've hit the UN too. I'd suspect incompetence more than anything else. I don't think the Israeli's want to tick off the few "allies" they have anyway.

maybe those same hezbollah were hiding behind the clearly marked UN observation post bombed by isreal...the soldiers in that post were on the phone to isreal warning them for hours that they were bombing to close.

In the first few weeks of the war, the Israelis did destroy a Lebanese TV station.

The Israelis made no apologies, nor denied claims that it was intentional.

What was suprising was that the station is known to be pro-israeli.

The reason: Israli military blames the media for changing Israeli public opinion that forced them into leaving Lebanon in 1982.

    So... accident. Maybe, maybe not.

I knew I'd heard a proper quote for that.

Israel isn't a good listener? Who'd have thunk it?

You'd think that a big white vehicle with the Reuters logo and the word "Press" written on it would be enough of a recognition of what it is. As for the suspicious behaviour... maybe they wanted to get an interview with the soldiers?

To be fair, the Israelis will probably say that Hezbollah likes to hide in vans with "Press" and the Reuters logo on it for just that reason.
