    Absolute max damage?

Now, is there any way to gain even more damage? Something I've missed? I know that you could craft bigger %ed (60% more) on a Thunder Maul, but that wouldn't be ethereal... at least not until 1.11 or in some mod.

If it's just about maxdmg, you probably can't have more, but if it's socketed with 2x Lo instead, it will effectively deal more damage.

You can't craft anything but axes with the blood recipe.

You can craft blunt weapons with the same ED bonus with Hit Power though.

Yes, this makes for some interesting crafts...

    Caduceus (real good potential)
    Archon Staff(!)
    Thunder Maul
    Legendary Mallet

For blood recipes, zerkers are the only ones I use.

No, it would be BETTER, cause it would be a lot faster, but Ohms (as far as I know) add 50%ed...

    50 < 40

    lol.

I think you mis-read, it's 40ED/15 MAX damage, not 15 IAS, it wouldn't be faster, if anything.

Wasn't there some kind of weird etherealness bug in 1.07 where ethereal items got their damage boosted considerably??

With respect to average damage you are right (i.e. that jewel would be the better choice), but not with respect to maximum damage (which this thread is about). 50% of 180 = 90, 40% of 180 + 15 = 87 and for ethereals, 50% of 270 = 135, 40% of 270 + 15 = 123.

I've been wondering about this too, there is supposed to be a thread about it over at the SPF, but I wasn't able to find it yesterday...

The way eth items worked in 1.07 was just adding 50% damage or defense, however, this was NOT applied to BASE damage or defense, which made eth items blow donkey stick mostly.

It seems to me eth 1.07 items can be taken into later patches and retain the 50% damage/defense bonus they had in 1.07, but be recognized as ethereal and thus get the 50% boost to base defense in adittion! This would be like finding a superior ethereal item with 50% superior instead of 5% to 15% (!)

Well, that's the way I figure it works, but I may very well be totally off in my speculations here.

In 1.07 ethereal armors get +50% defense (which isn't shown if it has no other +ed%, added alongside any other +% defense. I don't remember what happens if you bring a 1.07 eth armor to 1.10, although it is possible that the +50% defense bonus is kept, and the usual +50% base defense is added. Just a theory though.
Ethereal weapons get +50% ed, added just like on the armors, but also +50% max dmg, which works on the base (including 1.09+ etherealness). That's why SP BotD weapons show more dmg than those on bnet, because if you're using a Zod, you're rich enough to get an über 1.07 Superior Ethereal weapon.
