About Hammers

Just a few questions on the skills Magical Hammer or whatsit, that the Paladins use:

1) Is it Magic damage or Physical damage. If it's magic damage like I suspect it is, then how come I just got rushed through Act 2 by a Hammerdin. I SAW him getting those Magical Immunes with his hammer.

2) Can it leech? I've heard people say that Magical Hammer could leech.

1) nothing is imune to the hammer, only the wailing beast that can be found in the temples in kurast

2) nope, u can't leech life back from hammers, use redemption from time to time to fill up your life and mana bulp

The mummy creatures in Act 2 Tals Tomb (Unravelers, I think) are immune to magic as well. I'm not too sure how the Hammerdin got past those though, it sounds a little fishy...

Edit: Just realised it's the Horadrim Ancient's, not the Unraveler...

I never had any problem killing them, they go down like any other beast but the wailing beast is imune...

and those poison-releasing-upon-death corpses in the ancient tunnels are immune to magic

AFAIK, Hammers can harm Undead creatures, even if they're Immune to Magic (not sure if that's a bug or a feature). Wailing beasts aren't Undead, so hammers can't harm them.

Fortunately for Hammerdins, Wailing beasts only appear in Act3 temples - areas people rarely visit.

In many games, Paladins are a cross-class between fighters and priests. Diablo still goes into that direction --- *blessed* hammer is pure magic damage, but undead (and maybe demons, don't know) are considered intrinsic enemies for paladins, so their blessed hammer still hurts magic immunes of these classes.

Somewhere in some god forsaken place somewhere in A3 can you find creatures that blessed hammer doesn't touch... because they are animals.
But just about nobody, hammerdin or not, ever goes there...

That's right, undead suffer extrra damage from blessed hammer which can't be resisted. Regarding the wailing beasts, your merc can surely take care of the five or so which appear in the Ruined Temple, else you can still outrun or even ignore them, grab the book and leave the tample.

Hm... seems I have to rephrase my description of the significance of that area --- since all my characters go through there.

But the temples are indeed small enough to deal with immunity issues. Or just party with someone who's not using magic damage... i.e. just about anyone, except (pure) hammerdins, berserker barbs or bonemancers unless they have better mercs than you do :)

Only magic immune animals can resist hammers. Demon and Undead immunity is ignored. I think there are animal class critters in Hell difficulty Hell that can spawn with magic immunity too.

I don't think so, I never met anything like that...

OK, now I found out what you really meant. Next time I will read your posting more thoroughly :uhhuh:

Except for wailing beasts, there are no magic-immune non-undead. Magic immunity cannot appear as a random boss ability as well.

No problem :)

You are correct, exept the wailing beasts, no "hammerding-immune" beasts around, makes him the most elite PvM cookie killer build around.

Dangerously boring and great fun at the same time...
