about expansion set

I have just finished D2 in normal mode and installed the expansion. After converting my character to the expansion I've noticed that there are no difficulty levels (i.e. I can not choose between normal and nightmare like in the original game). Why ? How does the expansion work when characters are converted ?

I think when a classic character is converted to expansion, they're sent back a couple acts to make up for the additional one added.

You need to be in Act III to stay in the difficulty when converting to expansion (At least that's how it is with Hell, might be different with Nightmare, but it's prolly the same)

What does this mean ? I was playing at normal level. Am I still at normal level with expansion ? I restarted the last quest of ACT IV and it looks MUCH more difficult.

If you're quest log shows that the third quest in act IV is complete, talk to Tyrael in town and he will send you to act V.

The number of completed acts is stored together with the character which decides about which difficulty level you are assumed to have completeted. As the expansion adds a fifth act on each difficulty level, you might end up in a lower difficulty level than before after convering the character to expansion. The acts themselves are actually completed while act 5 is unfinished in each difficulty, so you cannot e.g. get a quest reward twice, it's just like that with respect to the calculation of the maximum difficulty level.

There's alot of changes between classic and LOD.

Monsters tougher different weapons and abilities etc.

Not the same game as classic.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but the same act for me feels harder, not easier.

Ah good to know, so it's Act II to stay in Nightmare after converting Krischan?
