I've read the books and I agree that it's a very good series. I'm currently waiting for the next one out but you may be interested to know that awhile ago there was an annoucement about a possible TV series on it. Of course the TV series could be a flop, but I'd still be interested in seeing it.

This is one series that I thought started strong and finished weak sorry to say.
G.R.R. Martin is well known in Hollywood and the screenplay area however so we may see it done someday.

In the Sci Fi area his series of storys on Haviland Tuf in the EEC Seedship is something I always thought was made to be a TV series. Sadly it's out of print now, Check used bookstores.

It finished weak? if I'm not mistaken it isn't finished yet.

The last book wasn't all it was cranked up to be, but still very interesting.
I just hope dear George doesnt kick the bucket , like Robert Jordan did. I hate unfinished series. Finishing a serie with just the scribbles the original write left behind never works. Just look at Dune...

I've heard Wheel of Time might be finished by someone else. But damn.. he knew he had a fatal disease a while back. He should have cranked out outlines to the finish, and then gone back and fleshed them out.

As to Martin, all my D&D friends love that series.

    I think he did.

    Outlines are no guarantee though.

Welcome to the painful fraternity of those fans of this series who wait 2-5 years between books.

I meant finished weak as I don't like the way things went in the later books.
And yes I agree about People dieing before finishing a good series sucks.
The Amber series by Roger Zelazny for example, even worse as they let some hack finish the series off with a abomination of a last book after he died.

Re: a song of ice and fire

Hey Anak, I think GRR did it on purpose. when he split the book and did it based on POV chars I think he intentionally chose the waeker POV for Feast. That wasy he could return triumphantly with Dance with all our favorites shortly thereafter and explode back on the scene. Of course shortly became 2 years for a book already 1/2 written and its all gone to hell, but I digress.

Dance will be great, the series will finish in 15 years, but it will be worth it.

IMO, the only bad thing about Feast was Brienne before her last chapter.

If you removed all her pointless questing, I think it stacks up quite nicely versus the earlier books (though still a bit worse).

This is a great series. If you liked this series, obvioulsy Jordan's Wheel of Time is good, but an older author that gets overlooked is Stephen R. Donaldson and his Thomas Covenant series. Very good.
Currently reading another series of books about the Malazan Empire by Stephen Erickson. Very good as well. Remeinds me of Glen Cook, the dirty down to earth soldiers point of view.

I still have a copy of the first book..I was so taken by a short story of Mr. Martin, I had to have it. I've been putting off reading it for perhaps more of the series to be published.

Neal Stephenson is my favorite current writer closely followed by Steven Burst.
Then W.E.B. Griffin and a host of others.

Oh my god, a SSNLDO sighting!!!

Anyways, yeah, this is a great series. I still liked Feast of Crows, but obviously it was a step down from the rest of the books. It's still an amazing series with great characterization and a globe spanning plot. I'm a huge fan and can't wait for the next book.

Obviously Jon Snow is the best character.

Re: a song of ice and fire

Why is it some authors seem to struggle to write a single book, but someone like Piers Anthony has written well over 100 books so far? (And he's co-written more.)
