A question for those of you who live in "small" or "rural" towns...

Hi guys. Well let me just put forth what I'm trying to explain. I live in a small town in North Carolina, not back road red neck "everyone's married to their sister" rural town, but still pretty rural and not very populated, but within an hour of the capital at least. Well...I'm beginning to get sick and tired of it and I want out. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who lives in a small town and has the same problem. While although I have friends here and such and I can understand why some people would want to live here their whole life here and what not, but I just can't take it anymore. If I have to see the same roads and the same stupid fast food joints and the same stupid school, I'm going to go nuts...My brother had the same problem before he left for college, but I still have the agony of living here for another 2 years till I can get out...I was just wondering if anyone here is in the same little situation I'm having and wondering how you guys are dealing with it.

And partying all night has already been suggested so I'm just puting this out here because I'd no that would be the first suggestion.:azn:

What's your upper limit on "small" as far as population? Anyway, I wouldn't mind, as I tend to entertain myself soley at home.

Well it's not a few hundred people town, but more like a couple thousand. It justs feels so small though, my highschool only has 500 people so it isn't exactly "crowded"

You're going to see the same stuff no matter where you live(unless you roam around in an RV), the only difference is there are more assholes in a big city.

I grew up in a town of like 800 people. Get a job, play a sport, rack up a few thousand posts on an internet forum. Other possibilities: girlfriends, start a crappy band, become emo and spend hours blogging to you live journal and cutting yourself.

The possibilities are endless. Now if you'll excuse me I need to go blog to my live journal and cut myself...

Theres about 7,000 people in my town, and about 20,000 on my school campus. I would choose to live in my town any day over something as crowded as a school campus or city.

QFT!

donutz, a few hundred thousand is a small town?

In my country 562,570 inhabitats in one town is as big as it gets (granted, the cities around a capital form an urbanised area that together amounts to some one-million inhabitat zone).

No! Not a small town! Only small town in your mind!

So, there's been plenty of constructive suggestions. Occupy yourself with something you're fond of, and see how you like it when you have something to do. If you're still anxious, leave, but remember there might be someunderlying reasons that make you feel anxious. Change of place is often not fixing the real problem but an expensive bandage which not even atop the wound.

We don't really have "small towns" in the same way you do here in Australia, everything is pretty much concentrated around big cities, it's just a big urban sprawl with one town bleeding into another.

Except out in the country, but why would anyone in their right mind live there? It's like three people to a town or something, everyone's house is five miles apart... not really a town so much as rolling farmland with the occasional shop.

But anyway, I've always lived in middle suburbia. Not that it matters to me since I never go out.

Where do you live Donutz? Rocky Mount? I've got relatives there, if that is where you are. I myself lived in a tiny little place west of Greensboro, one of those couple hundred places.

We live in a fairly small farming area. It's about 30 minutes to the East, South or West to a larger city. If you head north, there is pretty much nothing. I actually like it. I can go out my back deck in my jammies or next to nothing at certain times of day with no-one noticing. If I had to choose a larger city to live in, it would be Chicago. I love that city.

Tokyo is, um, kind of big, so I have no advice.

When I used to spend time at my grandparents' place (about 10 miles outside a mighty village of 300 people) I read a lot of books and did some fishing.
