A question about why eth things are valuable...

Why are things such as eth flails and eth shields valuable? They are for HotO and Spirit respectively (right?), but neither makes it repair durability or indestructible, so wouldn't people avoid eth for the runeword?

    Mercs.

Items equipped on mercs do not lose durability.

    That's one reason.

Surely mercs don't use HotO or Spirit?

Spirit is generally a caster shield with the high fcr, and cheap to make. i'd guess that players that use spirit don't melee with those chars much, making the shield last longer. not sure about Hoto tho.

In any event, if you do not get hit, you do not lose durability.

So for a caster type, that would work out.

    1. Some eth items have the indestructable/self repair mod.
    2. Some eth items are intended to be used on mercs.
    3. Some eth items are intended to be used on casters.

Eth items have lower str requirements.

Eth flails will never lose durability (since weapons don't lose durabiity unless you attack with them; even if you get hit).

Shields for spirits have high str requirements. A lot of people only want to use a spirit on switch for BO prebuff...so an eth monarch is a perfect choice. Lower str requirement and won't lose durability.

Eth spirits are also used on characters for a sheild on your bo switch, some some characters don't quite reach enough str for a regular monarch - when you're talking low strength classes, the difference between 156 and 146 strength is notable.

Also, items dont lose durability in duels, so u can have an eth item last forever if u just duel with it. And eth items have better stats, so whats not to love? Better stats than non eth, and last as much as them too.

Incorrect. Items do indeed lose durability in duels - slower than in PvM, of course, because you aren't constantly being pounded on by monsters, but they do still lose durability.
