A couple questions...

Hey all, I've been trying to make the runeword Beast for some time, I've got the runes for the most part, but for some reason no one is trading me a 5os beserker axe >< so yeah, a couple questions have since emerged and I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out....

1. Does magic find affect socketable items?
2. If only looking for socketable items, should I really NOT have mf so that more white items can drop?
3. Where's the best place to find these elite socketable items?
4. Do venders sell white elite items?

1 & 2: MF affects socketable items because more MF will turn more items blue / yellow / green / gold. Therefore, the answer to #2 is 'yes'.

3: in general, all places are good that have lots of items drop. Lower Kurast with its many chests surely is an option. I didn't check the qlvl of a zerker axe though, and don't know if one can drop in Kurast.

4. Vendors only sell magic items after a certain level. No elite white / gray items.

Yes, it reduces the chances you'll find a non magic item if I remember correctly.

2. If only looking for socketable items, should I really NOT have mf so that more white items can drop?

That's what I would do.

3. Where's the best place to find these elite socketable items?

I would look in the pits, act 5 areas, or possibly hell cows.

4. Do venders sell white elite items?

From what I've seen, socketed items are rather rare outside of act 1 normal, let alone elite.

This is my two ruples, so take it at what it's worth...two ruples.

I don't know about the best places, but I seem to have more luck finding elite socketable items in the main magic finding areas then anywhere else. That would be the Pits, Durance, River of Fire, Chaos Sanctuary, Cows and World Stone Keep for example. Of course as Cormallon mentioned don't wear any magic find gear when looking for white items and your chances will be better.

Zerk axe is from TC87, so it will fall only in areas with lvl 84 and 85 (with higher probability) from regular monsters. Lower Kurast is too low for zerker axe.
Look at Strategy compendium for area levels.

So let's see, that would be..

Pits (level 1,2)
Mausoleum
Maggot Lair (level 1,2,3)
Ancient Tunnels
Sewers (level 1,2)
All six temples in Kurast
City of the Damned
River of Flame
Chaos Sanctum
Echo Chamber (Drifter Cavern)
The Worldstone Keep (level 1,2,3)
Throne of Destruction
The Worldstone Chamber

I was bored  and apparently got a few of them wrong in my first post, oops

Actually, there are quite a few sources of ilvl 81 and 82 zerkers as well, like Cows and Ancient's Way. Check the drop calc for all of them.

Usually, if I want a white or grey item like a beserker axe then i'll run Hell Pits for awhile.

The strategy is to ease back the MF and pile on the killing power and set the difficulty to players8 if possible. Using a cookie cutter build works well. Good luck.
