600mf vs 500mf

Has anyone done any research on the difference between the drops that a charachter with good mf (500) gets vs. stratospheric mf (600+)?

Specifically I am considering putting 4 ists into a pally shield for my hammerdin. I am not an extremely rich player, so I could trade those for some interesting things. I am interested in knowing if having 600mf is worth the sacrifice.

Statistically there is no down side to having more Mf. Some people may say that they find better with less, but according to the laws of the game that is untrue.

The question is whether you are sacrificing speed to gain the extra Mf.
You shoud find an amout that works for you personally.

My Sorc runs anywhere from 600-990 Mf. I only tend to use upwards of 900 if I am not finding anything, otherwise I usually stick with around 700.

My Hammerdin runs 476. Most of which is composed of 7% Charms (Other than Travs, Chancies, Enigma and Shako.) I find that this number is plenty.

I guess to sum this all up: what are you currently finding? If uniques are dropping that is good. If not then you probably need more. The only thing you can help with Mf is how many uniques drop, not if they are any good. Meph has dropped multiple uniques per run for me hundreds of times, and most often they aren't godly :)

MF suffers diminishing returns after around 300%. That is, going from 200-300, you get alot more bang for your buck than going from 500-600.

Use those ists for something better. You aren't getting that much extra MF power, not really if you already have 500...

600 mf 350 to sets 266 to uniques
700 mf 372 to sets 276 to uniques
So not much point really, it also means you get alot less non magic items ie, eth zerkers, sup archons etc.

Yeah, besides it is not only the chanche of finding items that you should optimalize, but the speed as well. if you can swap in something that significantly pumps your damage and speeds up your runs instead of that extra mf, that is probably a good idea.

Lets take a look...

300% mf -> 136% better chance for unique
300% mf -> 187% better chance for set
300% mf -> 200% better chance for rare

400% mf -> 153% better chance for unique
400% mf -> 222% better chance for set
400% mf -> 240% better chance for rare

500% mf -> 166% better chance for unique
500% mf -> 250% better chance for set
500% mf -> 272% better chance for rare

600% mf -> 176% better chance for unique
600% mf -> 272% better chance for set
600% mf -> 300% better chance for rare

700% mf -> 184% better chance for unique
700% mf -> 291% better chance for set
700% mf -> 323% better chance for rare

So, decide for yourself. MF for magic items is the same as the MF% you are wearing, so I'm not calculating these.

don't waste your IST unless you really have no idea what to use it. You would not get any immediate benefit to pump up the MF from 500 to 600. In a long run, perhaps 1000 mephisto run, you will get 20 more unique items using 600 mf.

there is no gurantee on the item's quality. why waste your IST this way?
