40+K to 50+K Defense. How much difference is it in PvP?

I have posted several threads all over asking for some help on an anti-melee smiter I am building, and I will be running between 40+k to 50+k defense. I was wondering how much difference this actually makes to my survivability?

well smite is auto hit if it connects. takes no AR .. So defense here really doesnt matter much for the smite attack. Most smiters charge first, Def does help here. On smite I've found

A: Get the 50% Dr cap
B: Since you cant block em, Have on switch a range 5 attack. , this lets you get the first hit since you outrange them by 2-3. Hopefully you you get them in fhr recovery
Any melee dueler,get a range 5 wep. switch.. Helps so much on those hard to fight ww barbs, smiters, Hammerdins.
I recommend ebotd War pike or Ghost spear.. TONS of damage too.

Huh? I am building a smiter to deal with melee specifically. Not fighting against one.

Anyway, I have 50dr, about 4600life and maybe 50k def. I was asking if the 50k defense is really useful against melee in PvP. I know what to do in smite v smite duels. Was tlaking about the rest. You wwsins, barbs and so on.

As you can see there is no point to post multiple threads as they end up here anyway :laugh: I am sure there were some posts/threads discussing the difference in chance to hit vs high def smiters but I've failed to find any so far.

Anyone willing to help?

Actually, I was trying to find those threads too. i read through one last time but I cant find it again. Anyway, I started this at the pally forum because the guys there seem pretty dedicated to pally statistics......

Keep in mind that the level advantage/disadvantage factors into the to hit calculations. Duel others that are several levels lower than you and you'll always have an edge.

from memory the differance between 30k and 50k = 4% chance to be hit. This figure was from an old exile vs hoz thread in the paly forum.

Why don't you just go to the Facts & Formulae Archive in the Strategy Compendium, find the Chance to Hit formula, plug in some reasonable numbers, and see for yourself?
