4 OS Superior (15% Enhanced Damage) Great Bow Questions

I am in need of a 4 OS Superior (15% Enhanced Damage) Great Bow to make Faith for my Merc.

I have a few questions before I post something on the trade forums.

Am I right in thinking that I could acquire a non socketed version, and Larzuk would give me the maximum number of sockets (4 in this case)?

How about if I got the exceptional or normal versions, the Double Bow or Composite Bow respectively – they also both have a maximum of 4 sockets. Would they both be granted 4 sockets by Larzuk, or could they get less if the item level isn’t high enough? And could I then upgrade them with the cube recipe and have them retain the 15% ED and 4 sockets?

Is there somewhere to check the maximum number of sockets one of the two lower item ranges would grant me?

Unless the bow is below ilvl 25, it will be guaranteed 4 sockets. Since it will always be above this, buying a clean Great Bow does the job just as well.

explain to me why you said "since it will always be above this"

is it because the qlvl can never be lower than the ilvl? if that is how it works, a double bow would be safe too. i'd just have to upgrade it.

No, ilvl can never be lower than the qlvl. Qlvl aren't random. All base items (berzerker items, crystal swords) have their own detemined qlvl.

You can only upgrade uniques and rares

but..... i don't think you're right that only unqiue's and rares can be upgraded. i think anything can be:

1 Lum Rune + 1 Pul Rune + 1 Perfect Emerald + Exceptional Unique Weapon = Elite Version of Weapon (Single Player, Ladder Only) This formula changes the base item type from the exceptional to elite version. For example a Cleaver is turned into a <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:Street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on">Small Crescent</st1:address></st1:Street>. This does NOT convert the item to the Elite Unique version of the Exceptional Unique Item. Unique item bonuses remain the same; only the item it's based on is upgraded. This can be used to upgrade Ethereal Items also. They will continue to be Ethereal after they are upgraded. You cannot do this formula unless you are using a Ladder Character. Also if the item is socketed, then jewels or runes and their mods will also remain.

No ,you're wrong and lupor is right. Just rares and uniques can be upgraded. Sets, magics and normal items can't be upgraded.

@lumpor: ilvls can be lower than qlvl, they are two different things. For example if you normalize a low quality diadem, the ilvl is set to 1 but the qlvl remains the same.

ok, i believe you now that two of you are saying it haha

not to mention that if i'd actually read what i quoted, i'd have noticed it said UNIQUE lol

so the only way i'm getting my 4 os superior great bow is if i find out, or if i find a 0os one then get larzuk to socket it for me.

elite items can only drop in nightmare act5 (remember i got some in WSK) and all hell. nightmare act 5 (there are exceptions) and all hell areas have area lvl 60+ so any monster on these areas shall have mlvl 60+ so any item drops from those monsters shall have ilvl 60+

so ANY great bow u find (exclude low quality ones) shall get 4 socket from larzuk. i dont know what happens or even cube recipe works if socket low quality one with larzuk and try to normalize it.

quality lvl is related with item type. check arreat summit. in there all quality levels are listed for all items (except amulets' qlvl = ilvl, or rings??)

it is related with monster level and chance to be dropped by it. i remember something like if mLVL >= qLVL of item then monster can drop that item. that is why u cannot find a "Windforce" in hell "Bloody Foothills (lvl 80 area)" but may find in "The Pit (lvl 85 area)" from a normal monster (they have area lvl as monster lvl). note: hydra bow has qlvl 85.

guide is a bit old but i dont think blizzard changed the mechanics.

if you use cube then ilvl will be set to 1 which is something different.
