I don't mean to ruin all of the #30 fun, but RL just dropped something in my lap that can't be ignored. There is no way I will have the time for this. Although I plan to keep playing D2, my time will be spent on projects that can be completed bit by bit. Good luck to everyone in the tournament.

    Hi All,

I have a couple questions on the rules:

    1. It seems implied that you can run one character for each round, but is isn't specifically stated that I can see. For example, can I spend 10 hours with an Amazon, and 10 hours with a Sorceress in the Moo Moo Farm? Or are they limited to sets? e.g. an Amazon can do a 20 hour set, and the Sorceress can do a 20 hour set if there is time remaining. Or is character swapping not allowed at all?

    2. For the third round, do we pick a single area for the 20 hours? Or can the same character run multiple areas? e.g. a Sorceress running Pits, Ancient Tunnels, and Kurast Temples?

    Thanks!

    1. You can switch between as many characters as you want during a 20 hour batch.

    2. You can do different areas.

Are people gonna do 1.07 for travincal and a85 areas? I think the rates of runes are same for 1.08, so we could see some 1.08 fireball sorcs at Snapchip

I will do travincal probably. Not sure what I'll do for the others. Should probably do 1.13 with my fissure druid (yawn) since it's all geared up and I need to find Tyrael's before I uninstall forever

I'm in. Guaranteed I'm fighting for last place with my rune luck but screw it. I've been practicing with my LF Zon with and an infinity geared Merc at /P5 and the best rune I've seen fall for about 5 hours is a thul :(

Keeping all your luck for the actual RFL is a good thing. Besides, your bad luck can't continue forever. I predict great drops for you ;).

Also, check the number of people in the participants lists, as well as the number of top runners. This round is going to be epic !!!

What's a good time for a run on /p5? Something like 3 mins?

3 minutes!? I'm going to get smoked :)

Probably takes me 3 minutes to get the leg and open the portal, even though my waypoint is right next to the Tristram portal.

Legitimately though, I'd like to know the averages of some of the runners beforehand as well. I have a lot of things to learn.

My run times are far from efficient, too. Never properly timed them, but considering I go through about 1.5 batches of revived cows per run, I'm not even close to 3 minutes. Not even sure how to speed things up, either, other than increasing my Poison Nova damage a bit.

No worries, that's how I won last years Cow round :).

I still wonder about this myself though, as I'm realistic enough to know that I won't luck out twice in a row, so my efficiency has to increase. A good map usually is the answer. And then proper herding of loads of cows. I still have a tendency to start attacking any bunch of 10 or so cows, while it's much better to herd multiple packs and then start the killing. I know I got better at that during last year's RFL, but still my run times weren't even close to top runners.

But yes, a good map and proper herding probably are key. In that respect I'm actually not sure that revived cows are any good. It might be better to just run with only the merc. I know that mine easily stayed alive, except for some very nasty combinations like Amp and Fana.

Not sure what makes a good map for the cow level, but I think mine is good enough. It's a circular map, so I don't have to do any backtracking. Cow King has his fort in a corner, so from the portal I go upwards until I reach the left side of his fort, then move through the map in a circle until I reach the right side of his fort. Tristram is only 4-5 teleports from the WP.

Herding is not always easy, though. Revived cows like to wander off in all directions, slowly pulling cows from other herds in and separating those herds a bit. They add a bit of safety for my merc, though, and @Gripphon used them in his cow nec vid, too. Granted, his necro had 125% FCR (mine 75%), his merc was most likely wearing Fortitude (mine Treachery) and he used a facet'd Death's Web which surely had a better roll than mine (mine still unsocketed with the lowest -poison resist roll possible).

It also doesn't help that I'm still looking through items for gems, jewels, charms and item bases instead of just runes. That's something that I'll definitely have to change during the RFL.

What I found to be working really well, was teleport around to gather a few crowds, then use Attract on a monster, cast Amp, then PN. Attract has a huge range, so draws in cows from quite the distance, and it also takes some of the heat of your merc. Amp, an eth elite Infinity, Fortitude and a life leech helm made sure the merc was dishing out big damage and as such leech back any life he lost very quickly, while the CTC Chilling Armor kept him rather safe. This way he can make that first corpse quickly and the CE chain starts. With my PN damage and -EPR, one body was usually enough to start that chain, but I reckon that with less skillers and overall good gear you might need a second one.

I'm pretty sure that my Necro also only reached the 75% fcr breakpoint (20 gloves, 20 belt, 35 spirit shield). It doesn't take too many CE casts to clear an entire crowd, so I'm not sure the next breakpoint is worth the loss in +skills. Then again Gripphon is one of the fastest known SPF players, so there's probably something to be said about that 125% fcr breakpoint if he goes for that. Then again he probably has some godly gear that us mere mortals don't have, so ...

As for a good map ... I find that hard too. But I think that basically it has the portal to Tristram close to the waypoint and a cow map without too many large, open areas. O yes, and the fort not almost on top of the portal to the Cow level ;). Getting a map where Tristram is close to the waypoint isn't too hard, but I probably settle on such a map too fast too, while it might be important to focus on one that doesn't have a lot of wide, open areas as well.
