Congrats to the top three (and all who scored).

First set was pretty horrible. Four Puls among the 8 qualifiers and only 2 HRs (Ber, Sur). Ist and Um rounded out the score, if I recall correctly.

Pretty much rained Ohms (4) in the last 10 hours of the second set, but alas no Chams. Sur dropped in the last 15 minutes to up my score, but clearly wasn't enough.

On to Rd 3. Zods all around to finish strong...

Congrats @ffs with the monstrous score and also congrats to @PhineasB for doing so well without teleport for most of his set.


As for my set, I found 22 qualifiers, but the quality was lacking. Travincal isn't very exciting- just 1 set done in this round.

@ffs, @LongingForDeath you weren't wrong to be worried about 1.07 runners...if the Ist and 1st Mal I got had been from councils instead of vamp/heirophant, that would have been more than 40 more points...heck, just the Ist would have pushed me to the lead... :p

Ok, so I was running in 1.07, which is MUCH less explored for RFL...there's no list of optimized builds, no 'standard' equipment lists, no Enigma for teleport (no Naj's staff, either), so if you're not a sorc, you're hoofing it... Also, as I was testing various runners, builds, and equipment prior to the start of the round, I began to suspect something terrible that was confirmed by @Fruit here... the superunique councils (Galeb, Ismail, and Torc) all suffer from the same drop bug as 1.07 Act Bosses: they only drop from their Normal difficulty Treasure Class, which for runes, means nothing over Thul! Fortunately, they hork properly, which IMO means Barbs are the best council runners in 1.07, full stop.

WW barbs work really well for council, but WW is very different in 1.07...dual-weilding does let you hit twice as much, but you only ever hit with the primary weapon, and weapon speeds are NOT averaged (only the primary weapon speed matters). Further, almost no offensive mods on the secondary weapon have any effect, so it is primarily of use as a stat boost/buff stick. This means you need one really hurty fast weapon and one that gives stats, life/mana, resists, MF/GF, MDR/PDR, etc. I tested a lot of different weapons, and discovered that +damage to Demons was VERY effective vs. council, FAR more than in a modern patch. I had also decided that I wanted to maximize the advantage of Hork by getting my slvl as high as I could without slowing runtimes or filling my entire inventory w/skillers

...aaaand thats as much of the REAALLLY long, detailed post I wrote detailing all the ins and outs of what i did for this RFL round that remained after the page spazzed out when I tried to post it...as I have no intention of spending several more hours redoing it, heres the short, pissed off version:

About an hour in, I got a non-qualifier Ist from some Vamps and Heirophants when I killed them after they killed my merc. Then no runes for 7-8 hours, then a non-qualifier Mal from a champ Heirophant pack who KEPT blizzing me and pissed me off. At about the halfway point, I finally got a qualifier, a Vex, then about 20 minutes later, a wizspike, which led to regearing to take advantage of its massive resists and FCR. Shortly after that, I got an Um, and on the very next run, another Um, but this one was non-qualifier, from a vamp that wandered into the killzone and got mowed down. Finally, got a Mal about 2 hours from finishing, so I got Vex, Mal, Um as qualifiers, and Ist, Mal, Um as non-qualifiers (in Travincal, but not from council). Also got an eth Skullders at around 15hrs and another right before finishing...yay me.

I haven't had this drop from a monster, yet. One of the only EUs ATMA admits exists and can be dropped :p

Also, what does your merc have equipped? I'm guessing amp dmg bow + defensive gear + ias? I think you've probably shown it before.

3 points! I thought my score would set me higher, but wow guys, what a round !

I failed my qualifier grailing by Lo Jah, but in the end I had quality really - my first Cham ever! If I take into account training, I can add Lo, therefore council still have to give me a Jah... see you later demons!

Considering both rounds, the only qualifier I didn't drop is a Zod : it pretty much forces me not to consider AS for round 3, as a hope !

I hope to be able to put details about my round here this evening or tomorrow, but I'll already leave this here:

Things are shaping up nicely already !!

My goals for the second round (in order of importance :

  1. Have fun
  2. Find Metalgrid
  3. Find at least two Jah runes
  4. End in the top 5
  5. Improve my run times
  1. Succeeded, although due to time constraints I had to squeeze in gaming time in between RL stuff more than I'm happy about
  2. Succeeded ... twice :). Found all the S/U jewelry in the game now.
  3. Failed: I only found 1
  4. Failed miserably at 12th spot. Although a mere 5 extra points would have gotten me 6th place, so my score definitely wasn't too bad
  5. Succeeded. Got from 23.6s avg last year to just below 23s avg this year, with an average run time of 22s or so in the last few hours

Edit: o yes, we need predictions again. Let's go !

  1. one of the 1.07 people; if I have to choose someone, it's @Grape
  2. @NanoMist : we all know he's going to win the tournament again, he'll make a start with it by getting second place in this round
  3. @LongingForDeath I'll keep voting for him until he ends in the top 3 ;); seriously though, he's definitely a possible outsider for top 3 here
Hmm, not quite. Although I did get LongingForDeath right :). And WoRG did have the runes drop to make it to first place. They just dropped from the wrong source ;).

Ran the whole thing with my 99 Blizzard sorc, so really not a ton to say about the round. I averaged around 19s runs, and only picked up minimal stuff (just GCs, rare rings/circlet types, and whatever else I felt like as I went along). Nothing notable other than what's above dropped, very disappointing in terms of rings/jewels this round. We're all here for the runes anyways, so let's get to it!

Run 19 - Ist -> decent start, always nice to get a qualifier right away!

Worth the wait! From the next little while the runes flowed at a more consistent pace.

All in all of course I'm happy with the results. Some good runes found and two very nice skiller upgrades for characters I use in these competitions.

Ok, here's my round:

I thought I had the runes nicely lined up, but apparantly they got mixed up in the end :(.

So yes, total amount of qualifiers isn't too bad, but just like with the Cow round quality just wasn't there to get a good placing.

My start was actually excellent: in the first hour I got a HoZ, Bul-Kathos' ring, Dwarf Star, perfect poison facet and my first qualifier, a Vex:

The trend continued during that first 3 hour session, when a Lightsabre dropped, followed by my second qualifier, another Vex:

To top it off, I got the one unique amulet I had never ever found during all of my D2 days, and as such had set as one of my goals for the round : Metalgrid.

The next session, less than 2 hours, so me getting a Pul and then yet another HR: Ohm #1

3 HRs after 4 hours ... not bad at all. But, good as it was, I knew it meant nothing in the light of final rankings. If you want to compete for the top spots, Vex and Ohm don't mean much, merely a solid rune to close that top 5 consisting of Cham / Ber / Jah.

Nevertheless, it's better than seeing no good qualifiers at all, right? Moreover I was at an average pace of 23.165, half a second faster than last year, so I was really having a good time.

During the next session, some 1:45 hours, I got Um, followed by these two lovely TC3s:

and then around the 6 hour mark, a rune I had set as a goal for this round, because I mainly lack those for my runeword grail:

Definitely a solid start. 6 qualifiers in 6 hours means nice quantity, and with 4 out of those 6 being HRs, I definitely scored above average there as well.

Unfortunately things slowed down a lot from that point on. It wasn't too bad at first, with a Pul not too long after, followed by 2x Gheed's GC, eth War Travelers, a Lightning facet, a Cold facet the session after that, and then another HR:

At that point I was some 10 hours in. While quantity had decreased, I still had gotten 5 HRs, so a HR every two hours. Very solid, but ... as I knew that luck probably wouldn't continue, I was worried that I wouldn't get much improvement over that score anymore. Unfortunately this turned out to be entirely true, as the score I had then would also be my end score.

For the next 5 hours I wouldn't see a qualifier, except for an Um shortly after that Lo. I also suffered my only death at that time, when one of the Council bosses, with the lovely mods teleport and Fanatism, decided to teleport next to me while amped and 2 hit kill me.

As it often goes, not only qualifiers refused to drop during that period, but I didn't get any interesting drops alltogether, except for a lonely Cold facet. So at one point, even though I finally had some 3 hours to spare and I knew it would be a close call to finish the set, I just decided to call it quits on Travincal and I started a Trapper instead.

A few days before the end of the round, I decided to pick up Travincal runs again. The short break had done me well. Not only did I finally manage to get my run times just below 23s avg, but I also finally found another qualifier:

Obviously this left me with mixed feelings. On one hand it's a HR, and I still get excited when I see a HR drop. On the other hand it continued the trend that had been going on this RFL for me: amount of qualifiers is ok, amount of HRs is ok (6 HRs in some 16 hours still is solid), but the ones that really matter just wouldn't drop.

Now, such obviously is what's RNG is all about, and what such tournaments are all about. So contrary to last year's Travincal round, where I just couldn't get my head cleared and could only think about where I was in comparison to expected drops, now I didn't care too much, and I just hoped that the Ohm rune was a sign that things would pick up again.

And luckily they did. Not in terms of quality, since I didn't get any more HRs. But I did get 5 more qualifiers: Um, Gul, Mal, Pul and Gul. Getting me to 22 Gul runes in total in my stash, which is quite nice :). Other drops also picked up again, with a SoJ, perfect fire facet, Lenymo and second Metal Grid.

Looking at last year's results and the fact that there were far more participants now, I just knew it wouldn't be enough to score any points. In the end I wasn't that far away from it. A single Lo+ qualifier would have gotten me in the top 8. Now I kept all my luck for the last round ;).

Next to the qualifiers and good amount of TC3s (I posted about uniques, but also got a few set ones), I also got a lot of jewelry (more on that later), which the Council is known to drop a lot. But, and I don't know if this is so in general or if I just got lucky, I also got a lot of class-specific S/U.

@T72on1 and top others you guys always amaze me at how much you can get in one set... i got 15 in two sets, quality was real, but i'm not quite close to those non-qualifiers, congrats!

Guess i got to learn how to play Sorc THE RIGHT WAY... xD

Back from my trip. Sent @Grape my score, as pitiful as it was. Unfortunately my luck was awful on the rune front. Only 3 qualifiers. I was a few hours short of my full 20 hours as well, i just ran out of time. Those are below.

Some awesome drops were found during the last round! Still have to read few of these posts, awesome stuff!

Thanks for taking your time and sharing your results in such a detail. I'm afraid I won't have that much to say about my own R2, but I'll take a look at it again during the weekend.
