100 MF run results for Shenk/Eldritch/Pindle/and the Pit

For what it's worth, I decided to do 100 runs and compare the Pit to MF'ing Eldritch, Shenk, and Pindleskin. Around run 50 I started having another character join my games so you will see the item count increase by 50%-100%. I also started keeping record of rares that dropped about midway through, since my relatively mediocre MF may have keept these from being unique or set. I've put them in lower case so you can tell them from the set/unique items.

The general order of things was Pindleskin, Eldritch, Shenk, (Worldstone), Travical, and finally the Pit. I've listed Tamoe Highlands a few times since you have to run through there to get to the pit. Where an abreviation is missing, it means I didn't do it for some reason (couldn't retrieve body, too many slingers/black Souls, etc)

The character I used was a skellemancer with about 200-225MF

In the end, I think running the Pit in 1.10 is a little like running Pindleskin in 1.09, although not quite as boring, you don't find too many uniques, but every 15 runs or so you'll usually see balrog skins, colossus blades, sacred armors, threshers, lacquered plates, thunder mauls, legendary mallets, war pikes, giant threshers, monarchs, crusader/hydra bows and other elite items. If you want sheer volume of uniques relatively quickly, boss runs will serve your time better as you can see from these results.

My summary list of semi-useful keepers: 2xTal's mask, Trang's helm, 2xNat's boots, 2xTelling of Beads, Arioc's Needle, fal rune, 2xFrostburns, Eaglehorn, hellslayer, Chromatic Ire, Aldur's armor, 2xEthereal Edge, Wizardspike, Laying of Hands. This took about 40 hours of my time since I like to cover the entire pit.

I still hold true that Hell Meph is the dominator of dropping good items and quick. As for the pit, with 400 MF and 100 runs under my belt, I have absolutly nothing to show for it but a level 89 Sorc thanks to the experience. Bad luck maybe. =\

yup same here. i hardly ever do the pits. i've done it quite a few times and i've never found anything besides a 2 socket troll nest which i use for a Rhyme sheild. meph is much more rewarding for me. one day he dropped me 2 shakos a gheeds, and skullders. i have 400mf. the pits are only good for me when i wana lvl or i need some rejuvie pots. them lil dolls in lvl 2 can be killer if caught off guard :p

well i did find a normal flail there.. socketed it in the cube and it gave me 4 sockets. but other than that not much to show for it. i guess u gotta do the pits a lot to be rewarding. :)

Arrgggghhh! Do NOT say that Arioc's needle is semi-useful. It's the MOST irritating drop from Mephisto, I mean I've got like every possible % and skill combinations of it. I find it like every 3rd run lol :D

i've been reading ur posts and thinking the pit was a joke
and it still kind of is...
over all i've done about 100 pit runs, i'm guessing, and the best i've found is a leviathon, and an elemental charm... meph had been droping much beter for me, see my other post: can meph drop this? YA!

Is just luck, I've found 1 marrowwalk and a shako in the first 10 pit runs (430MF skelemancer)... and nothing worth (for me) since then (more than 50 runs).

Is this a change from V1.09?? Last I heard any Minions that were summoned (I.E. Skeletons, Valks, Shadow Masters, Druid Pets, etc..) did not recieve any MF Bonus. If so, how come you can MF with an army of minions doing all the killing?

The minions get my MF when they kill too... at least this is what I read somewhere

ive been doing tons of pit runs with a friend, and all we found is a uni conquerer crown (forgot name). wisp ring 12%, and wraith flight ghost spear. we did 1 trav run and 1 hephasto run yesterday cuz we heard they can drop pretty high runes....found IO off of council (highest rune ever, even after doing over 100 countess runs) and a cranium basher while getting to hephasto...thats luck......

That was a lot of work. Interesting results, though not great returns. You should try again and compare. You have inspired me to keep track as well, though it may take a while, but I'll do it!

I had never heard otherwise, but then I never MF'd with a skellimancer before either since they were considered a little weak for that purpose in 1.09. If your MF is added to a merc, it would make sense for it to be passed on to minions. Maybe this feature was "fixed" for 1.10(?)

That's definitely bad luck...REALLY bad luck unfortunately. With 400+ MF and 100 runs you should see better results. I have around the same on my Strafer and she usually nets 2 or 3 good items in that run span. Maybe I just consider some items good finds opposed to others. Within the last few Pit runs I've done I've gotten Cryptic Sword and Bone Visage off the top of my head.

Heh, I researched my own question and found this:

Does Magic Find work with Mercs or Minions?
Not for things you kill, the Merc's gear has no benefit to your +MF. However for things that the Merc kills, the drop is calculated for their MF + your MF. So if you both have on 4 socket armor with perfect topazes, things you kill will have 96% +MF, but things the merc kills will calculate at +192%. Dress your Merc up with 4-topaz armor and 3-topaz helm and try to let them get the final hit, and it might be worth it.

MF does work with minions, they don't have any MF of their own, but they use yours to calculate the drop. This has been fixed from CD2, where Necromancers had it rough, since their MF wasn't checked on kills made by their minions (including monsters killing themselves with IM on).

So ya, MF does work with minions, however unlike a merc you cant up thier MF%

Ive done MANY pitruns and I can say it's a whole lot better than Hell Meph if you are looking for rare stuff. If you want to keep on finding that same item over and over again, keep on doing Meph.

If on the other hand you want to find a bit more rare stuff, which Meph can't drop, do pitruns. Don't be surprised you find nothing useful in 20 runs, but if you do 100+ you can be certain you find something good.

It's all luck, Today I started doing pindle runs (as in 1.09) and found an IK armor in less that 40 runs.. maybe I'll find nothing worth in the next 2000... who knows ...

I agree with all those who say runs are luck. A week ago, during one day in about 7-10 pit runs I managed to find:

Unique Diadem, Unique Shako, Unique Sacred Rondache, Unique Legendary Mallet (was a Schaeffer's), Unique Swirling Crystal, Unique Embossed Plate, Unique Templar Coat, Um rune, Fal rune, 2x Lum runes, Fire charm, Offensive Auras charm, Dwarf Star...all I can remember I found.

I am not kidding, I really found all this in about 10 runs.

Since then, I have ran over 30 more pit runs and my best returns have been Tal's Mask, IK Belt, and Twitchthroe.

Anyone else have any similar experiences?

wow nice spell of good luck!!

ive done many pit runs and all ive ever found is trang helm :(

i do however keep finding magic and normal legendary mallets (seriously ive found about 15) and with 585% mf or so id have expected at least one of them to be schaffers :( o well ill keep looking.

Pits are slim pickins for me - altho 1 run I found gaze AND +5 skills archon staff. Not much else besides a few 4 socket flails, and a 6 soc hydra. Meph is better for me, but I really could use IK n Tal armor drops. Not gonna happen there.

I was messin w/ my zookeeper nec last night - has about 50 mf. Did a Baal run for the helluvit. Was on lvl 3 and an ammy dropped. metalgrid! Its alllll luck. My 400+ mf sorc hasn't sniffed out one of those yet...
