1 person muling on bnet

I play more bnet than anything else and am currently playing LoD ladder char.
My stash is full of gems and low level runes. I want to mule them on another char to free up some space, but short of buying a 2nd copy of D2 + LoD for my wifes computer is there any other way to do this ?

Yeah,

1) Make a private game and play in it for 5 mins.
2) Drop the stuff you want to mule then leave
3) Log onto another char (mule) and rejoin the game.

-the game should be temporary permanent (yeah...oxymoron) for a few min after it's been permed (5 mins)
-Don't switch chars or join/quit games too fast --> will get banned from bnet because it'll think you're a bot.

Risk: Possible realmdown

Other option: make friends with someone trustworthy from the forum (i.e. mods or other) and ask them to help you mule.

If a game is more than 5 minutes old it will stick around for a bit even when the last player leaves.

Thus, if you only have 1 CD key:
- create a game with the mule
- stay in there for at least 5 minutes
- leave the game
- join with your playchar. If the game is still there, you know you've really waited long enough
- drop a few of the items you want to move. More if they aren't worth a lot, just one if they are insanely valuable
- leave game
- join with mule
- pickup item(s)

Repeat as needed.

However, there is now the "realm down" issue --- if you do things too fast bnet will lock you out, and you'll loose whatever you've dropped. It may work if you join with a different IP address, but only once (unless you change address again), but I wouldn't rely on that. Better work slow, so a realm down doesn't happen at all.

You can also do this during playing --- play as usual, drop the items you want to mule, join with the mule, join with playchar again, continue playing, drop items, ... If you're not sure whether you've been in the game long enough, just leave and join again to verify that the games sticks around.

WARNING: other than realm down, another trap is that games will also stick around for a short time if they are less than 1 minute old. I wouldn't recommend using that; better wait the 5 minutes.

If you are leery of dropping your items and leaving, try leaving and re-entering the game without dropping any items; if you can do that successfully you know you've got the game permed properly.

Pay attentions to the level restrictions you've set up when you create the game - it sucks when your mule isn't permitted to enter the game because he's too low a level. If that happens, go back in with the char who dropped the stuff, pick it up, and start over.

So, if I'm understanding this right, a game played for 5 minutes will stick around for another 5 minutes, or is it less than that? And when going back in, how quickly is too quickly, closer to 30 seconds or more like 2 minutes?

Or you can do what I do when i have to mule when no one is on.

Go into someone elses game and drop the stuff outside of town in the blood moor.

Possible Risks: someone finding your stuff.

Usually you can switch mules several times before "realm down" or the other window which 'claims' that you have modem problems* What I do is transfer about 6 or so times then play for awhile (5minutes) then mule again. (What a pain). Just practice with stuff you can stand to lose until you get a 'feel' for how it works.

* I have cable and still it says for me to chenck my Modem.

30 seconds is generally good enough. When i mule, i generally take each mule up to charsi and repair then run back to my stash.

I'd like to add that if you make a private game so you can mule, make sure the character level for the game is high enough for your mules to enter. If you make a game with a lvl 60 character and you don't set the game lvl at 60, your mules can't enter the game.

Here's a wierd question... Can I give my cube to the mule and then go get another one? Would save a lot of time...

Self muling isent always good,

bout a week ago i self muled in a private game alone

i dropped shako, nigthwing, 2x SOJ, Upped vipermagi,2x full IK set, and snowclash belt,

When i rejoined with my mule 1 soj, nigthwing and snowclash was gone !
They were legimite (think it spells like that) found!

that's weird. only reason i can think of that something like that would happen is either someone jumped in your game and snagged your stuff. or you left it on the ground too long. i always make 1 player games, so i've never had anyone steal anything. but one time i dropped some stuff. then went to run andy, the countess, meph and baal. by the time i joined with my mule, it was gone. so i don't do that anymore.
