I just added someone to my personal "needs to pull their head out their bottom" list. :|
As for the bots;
Europe realm just had some down-time and afterwards there were no adbots in GBR1/2, and no adbots were joining my public games. There did seem to be less dia/baal bot games on the list but can't be sure about that. Not sure if Blizzard did ban a whole bunch of accounts, but after about 30 minutes at least 5 adbots popped into GBR1 and proceeded to bombard me with messages. Oh well, was peaceful while it lasted.

Lots of folks still play D2C
It's not as bad as this thread makes it out to be. In general I don't really see much difference now than how Baal runs were in the past. It's just now... well the one running them is automated.
But I've pretty much have mellowed in my D2 playing, things that used to annoy me now just... well don't. I'm here to have fun, try out some new builds thanks to the patch, and play with a couple friends. The only way these bot runners have effected me is that now, thanks to my erratic play schedule, at least I'll always find a Baal run to level in!
Plus those games are a treasure trove for lower crafting runes like Rals or even Flawless gems (no one EVER picks those up!) -- I also try to make a game out of it, where I try to kill stuff faster than the bots do (which nets me more experience in the long run). That and sometimes you get in games where people are chatting and being friendly, while waiting for the bot to open a tp -- in some ways people seem more friendly today than they were in the past.
I think many people have just come to realize this is the way things are and to get worked up over it is a waste of time. Besides if you don't like it, you don't have to play in those games/runs.

I was one of those ppl started playing D2 since the very beginning. After stopped playing for more than 5 years, I find myself back for more fun. It really makes me happy when I found my first and only HR-vex in Hell act2 yesterday. Surely there are tons of bots are out there, but i'm just here for my kind of fun.
To be honestly, I really miss the good old time of picking up junks to sell, then gambling for a SOJ with friends that loaded with gold to back me up.
BTW, I'm stuck on Hell Act2 maggot lair with my summon NEC, my might merc only has a plain lance. Since there is not enough room for my minions down there, is there anything I can do right now? Please don't tell me to find a better weapon for him...

@niyashisb: you really need something that does a lot of damage (ideally with crushing blow) for the merc, like Strength polearm, and unsummon as many minions as you need to get the merc up front. Otherwise you could get into a fix with some stoneskin itchy pack on any of the 3 levels. As a last resort you can also get a sorc to help with clearing the area

The bots come fast and furious and the entire left side of the screen is covered in text, to the point where you can't even see what you are doing. It's terribly annoying and totally unlike how D2 used to be.
Now that I am playing again for the first time in many years, I have to relearn all of the Battle Net commands. Unfortunately /ignore **** doesn't seem to block all of the spammers. Is there another better command to block these spammers accounts?

I saw this thread yesterday, and I thought about posting a reply, but I figured I have beat this horse to dead so many times in the past that I would not aggrevate myself with posting my disgust for bots and online shops.
Today I saw the locked thread a few threads below this one, so like any good rubbernecker I read through the whole thing and chuckled as I saw the trolling, the bans, ect.
Well that closed thread inspired me to post on this thread. The two topics really go hand-in-hand. I'm so glad Gorny and the other mods left it visible to everyone here. Our mods really do a good job on this site. I have had a few disagreements with them over the years, but I'll tell you what: you aren't going to find a better forum group and mods than the ones on this site (I keep wanting to call it diabloii.net). I belong to many different technology industry forums, and other game forums, and nothing compares to the level of service here. Forum ads take a few minutes to load? So be a Pal. I did it for a year, and it was nice. I'll likely get another Pal membership in the future (huge inbox helps for trading here).
Ah yes, and there was a point to all this. If adbots, dupes, lag (from dupe-lag), and other cheats make you angry, you can thank people like the jerkface who created the thread below about switching forums to JSP. Yeah I'm calling it out! I'll alert the mods so they can delete it if they want. All things bad about this game originate from that site. The owner was one of the original hackers of this game, and you can believe that people like him will try to ruin Diablo 3 for us, to put money in their own pockets.

I mean, I couldn't care less if a few lines popped up once or twice a game. But when it's one after another with 5-6 lines of text covering your screen, it gets terribly annoying.

there is a simple answer to avoid that spam, always make games with lvl req 10 ex for a lv 90 toon, allow 80 lvls margin. Sorted, some bots are lv 3 or 4 never seen one higher lv then this. All my open games are made like this, that's much more pleasant...

I think the botting problem is one that has to do with a fundamental game design flaw. There shouldn't be a reward for doing the same (easy) thing over and over. Rewards should come from skill.
For instance if there was an ELO system for PVP, and a new unique was awarded every time someone crossed the next 100 ELO (1700, 1800, 1900 etc) then there would always be items that were out of the reach of botters.
