According to the 1.08 patch notes conviction was nerfed so that means it must be great in 1.07! Looks like I found my next build.

Anyone have any suggestions on an end game weapon for my level 91 frost paladin? Am currently using the Atlantean Sword w/ +2 to skills. Would it be better to socket it? Thanks for any help.

The Atlantean is a pretty good endgame weapon for a 1.07 paladin. Baranar's Star or Schaeffer's Hammer would be better even though the hammer is not as good as later versions. You could also try Butcher's Pupil for the deadly strike, although you lose the +2 paladin skills from The Atlantean.

As for builds beyond the usual sorc/barb frontier, I had a lot of fun making pat with a hunter druid. Jalal's Mane has crushing blow and knockback, and while the summons aren't as powerful as in 1.10+, they do scale in life with each difficulty. In keeping with the hunter theme, I went with a rogue merc and a pack of wolves. Tests with the grizzly were not nearly as successful.

For assassins, Death Sentry is adequate but not as good as it gets in 1.10+ where the radius of CE was expanded. My "headhunter" assassin used Hellslayer, maxed DS and a fire merc from act III. She probably would have done better with Fleshrender and a lot of crushing blow, but she made mat and was fun as well.

Don't expect awesome kill speed out of either of those, though.

For paladins, zealot and fanatic avenger have both worked for me. Holy Shock is not so great in 1.07, iirc, and aura flashing is overrated. Most of the time I'd rather run up and hit something rather than counting three mississippi and changing auras. For the get-go against a tough crowd it can be handy, but it only gives you a brief edge at best.

    Yes thanks DNT.

I decided against a pally seeing as I'm already playing a melee character.

I decided to see how a Nova sorc is in 1.07. I love the pure aggression of jumping in the middle of monsters, zapping and hopefully getting out alive!

Good luck with the Nova sorc Yobbo. Thats one of my favorite 1.09 characters. Let us know how it goes.

I have a question about bringing set items from 1.07 forward - in particular mav's belt and the gris shield - and mixing them with 1.10 set items.

Do 1.07 set items count towards partial bonuses and completing sets? The reason I ask is that I'd like to (one day) kit out a mav's zon using the 1.07 belt and the rest of the 1.10 set. Would she be able to get the complete bonuses this way (minus the 25% res partial bonus from the belt that she obviously wouldn't get)?

    Thanks.

Lots of fun last night after I loaded ATMA on to my offline home computer. I ran a couple of crummy LK rack runs in hell with my L68 FrozOrb fast caster and didn't get much--just a 2 socket Krakenshell (saved the seed, thanks 1.07 guide), so I switched over to my L45 Thorny Avenger w/Fleshrender (thank you ATMA). I did 2 LK-Travincal runs and 2 Durance2-Mephisto runs, then a bit in Act IV for XP to level up to 46 to put on my recently crafted Hitpower gloves and got the following:

    a +3 passive & magic circlet
    a +3 curses circlet
    a +2 barbarian skills helm
    Isenhard's shield
    Sigon's gauntlets
    Vidala's Barb
+4 max dmg/+7% gold small charm

nothing earthshattering, but after reading this forum for a couple weeks and getting ATMA to work, this game is so much more fun. My PS2 is going to be collecting a lot of dust until Guitar Hero III comes out.

Thanks again to everyone for posting so much info--someday I won't waste skill points...

Welcome to the wonderful world of 1.07 Galtwish. May all your racks drop gold and green.

On a different note, I just want to share two rings I created using the 2topaz+ring cube recipy:

    Cathan's Seal
    Ring
    Required Level: 11
    Item Version: Expansion
    Item Level: 48
    Fingerprint: 0x79d1e7e1
    Damage Reduced by 2
    Lightning Resist +30% <-----------------nice
    6% Life stolen per hit

    ***Partial Set Item Bonuses***
    +10 to Strength
    ***Partial Set Item Bonuses***

    Triumphant Ring
    Item Version: Expansion
    Item Level: 48
    Required level: 2
    Fingerprint: 0x15f0f20a
+37 to Mana After Each Kill <------- came in the same batch as the ring above, obviously the extra lightning res got bugged and added to the mana per kill.

Nice bugged item there - should make any new casters life easier.

A silly question. Are you able to cube runes in 1.07, or must a later version be used?

Unfortunately, you can't cube up runes in 1.07. They must be brought forward.

Interesting fact: In 1.07 Sheal runes are called Shae and Io runes are called Po.

    !!!

Since the ten char limit forces me to be more creative than that, I've got a question or two:
    - Is there any other good XP source besides the the moo-moo farm?
    - For my (forb/static) sorc, warmth or teleport? Base mana pool ~350. Crap gear.

I've found cows to be about as good as it gets once you reach the 70s.

I went teleport if memory serves correctly.

I leveled my 1.07 sorc from 75 to 84 running Meph.

@yiuman: just saw your set items question. The answer is that partial set bonuses and full set bonuses are provided by the game, so 1.07 Mav's belt will work just fine for your purposes. You could take a full IK set from 1.07 into 1.11, for example, and get the pluses to skills, resists and AR as well as the glowing aura, but would of course miss out on the individual items' co-bonuses.

As for that MPK ring, I believe there is a known bug when crafting cold-resist rings that can cause a field overflow so that cold resist gets added to mana-per-kill. I have one like it, but, amusingly enough, won't use it even though I'd use a set ring crafted by the same method. Why? Afaik, one is an outright bug and the other is an oddity of the game design (where they forgot to tell the game to select a ring quality when crafting).

You do what you want, of course. I'm not trying to moralize or anything, just making conversation.

My sorc is 76 ot 78 (been a while can't remember which) and she does get a little experience from Andy runs too. Just depends on your patience I suppose.

BTW, the first TWO unique amulets I got from any were both Saracen's Chances. Was rather stoked with the first and couldn't believe getting a second straight up.

Thanks DNT. That makes sense about the set items - I just wanted to check before I moved the item forward (not that it something I'll do soon - but it is on my list of D2 'things to do', but there are lots of things ahead of it).

Re the ring, I got it using the lightning res recipy (I'm 99% certain - I did do some of the cold res in the same session, but I'm pretty sure I got it using the lightning) I'm currently undecided about what to do with it. I will definately use it in 1.07 (I think that patch has enough negative bugs that using the rare positive one is fine by me), but whether I'll ever move it forward is still a thing to think about - it would be awesome on a 1.10a fishymancer though (no Insight to power corpse expolosion in 1.10). I play completely self found, so I don't care one way or another about taint - its just about what makes the game fun for me.

Thanks for the advert RTB. I have a question about that - if I rewrite/post it to include/reflect all the extra comments made, do you think it is good enough to go in the stickies?

@Hurtlocker: If you are having trouble finding the addenda, its linked to on the first page of this post.

Grrr. ATMA ate my Cresent Moon Colossus Sword, only after I read that 1.07 runewords don't work in ATMA. I have tried to recover the file, but since the blade was on a character I created in ATMA for muling, it doesn't seem to leave me with many options.

Any Suggestions (other than finding another Hel and Um)? My Barb merc will hit level 72 next weekend and I would have loved to try this out on him.
