1.0 and 1.07 questions and comments
I'd like to say hi again (I've been signed up to the forum a couple of times, I rarely posted though... and the only remotely noteworthy thing I ever did was suggest a "Auramancer" build when 1.10 beta first came out :teeth: ) and apologize in advance for the excessive rhetoric...
Anyway, one of my rare posts on the forum stated that I was going to try to go back to 1.0 to get some nice rings, and give 1.07 a shot as well. It took me a while, but I finally got around to doing it. I currently have 1.0, 1.07. 1.09 and 1.10 installed (I just copied full install files, there are easier ways but it works...). Here are my questions/comments:
1.0
#1: It would be quite absurd to say it is easy to get uniques in 1.0. It isn't... you run around, collect gold and visit the merchant over and over till the right item type shows up (you have to leave town to get new items to show up), then you have to buy quite a few of those before you get your unique. BUT YOU WILL GET IT. If you want to rack up on Guls, or SoJs (I now have two, which is two more than I had before) this is the way to go. I would recommend this to anyone without a SoJ...
#2: It is pretty fast/easy to get your character to lvl 20 or so. Just give your starting character a lot of uniques (no lvl requirements, and several uniques add dex and str allowing any character to equip hard-hitting weapons). This is a easy way to get a character started for 1.07 (it is a lot easier to head into 1.07 with uniques and a decent character level).
#3: I've heard rares are better, but I have yet to find any that I considered noteworthy. Any comments on this matter are welcome.
#4: Can anyone recommend some good builds that could potentially go all the way to 1.10 (with a stop at 1.07)? I don't want to spend too much time on builds that won't be viable (at least be able to handle Hellforge in Hell) in 1.10.
#5: Is there any edited .dll or anything? I find myself muling with D2 Character Editor or what ever it is called...it isn't my favorite muling tool.
Now onto 1.07... I brought a barb out of 1.0 at around lvl 25.
#6: MAX DAMAGE CHARMS! I started him off killing the council in normal. I was suprised to see a few half decent max damage charms (8 or 9, but at that level is was a pleasant boost) right off the bat. I have several in my inventory now (most came from NM council), the best probably being a large charm with 14 max dmg. These charms alone seem to make the trip to 1.07 worth it.
#7: Jewels... I thought they would be nearly impossible to find, but I found around 7 fairly soon. However, the one rare I did find only had 3 mods, not the 6 it was supposed to be able to spawn.
#8: Making any decent crafted items seems nearly impossible, with the high rune requirements and the difficulty finding runes. However, I somehow managed to get a Um from the council (horked it)! So, in either case I'll have something nice to bring back to 1.10 eventually.
#9: I know that MF is messed up in 1.07, but I recall someone saying that with enough MF on bosses you could get 100% set or unique items. Anyone recall this?
#10: A post has been made about this, but if anyone knows the 1.07 Runewords, please share them with me.
In conclusion the trip to 1.0 and 1.07 was well worth it for the SoJ and max dmg charms alone. I would recommend it to anyone with the patience to give it a shot. Also, I'd like to say that ATMA has been of great help in 1.07, I'd hate to try keeping up with the items without it. No wonder my Diablo II days of old used to consist of leaving stuff lying on the ground (and I look back on what I left lying around with great remorse).
