Blizzcon Interview Exclusive: Big Magic Find Nerfs Coming in Reaper of Souls

Here’s a second excerpt/tease from our exclusive Blizzcon 2013 interview with Jason Regier and Travis Day. The full interview and transcript will be posted later today. For my last question I asked about Magic Find and the big changes it’s getting in Reaper of Souls and the new Paragon 2.0 system. Players have spent months wondering about the apparent removal of the current passive Paragon level bonuses to Magic Find and Gold Find, and the relatively minor role that Magic Find appears to play in the new Paragon Points system. (MF is in the Adventure Tab, and as of the Blizzcon demo, each paragon point would add 2% Magic Find, for a maximum bonus of +100% Magic Find.)

Adventure Mode vs. Campaign Mode in Reaper of Souls

One of the big questions since we saw the Diablo 3 reveals at Blizzcon… why will anyone ever play Story/Campaign Mode again once Adventure Mode goes live? I asked this exact question to several D3 devs in casual conversation at Blizzcon, and they all admitted that AM was spectacularly profitable and fun, but did not concede that it would be the only way to play once RoS was released.

Hands-On Reaper of Souls from Blizzcon 2013: Phenix

Phenix, one of the winners from our Blizzcon tickets contest wrote up a nice piece on you experience at the show and his play time on the Reaper of Souls demo. Here’s an excerpt and you can read the whole thing in his forum post. Be warned, I didn’t quote it here, but in the forum post there’s a spoiler about one of the funny/new/returning monster types you’ll see in some Nephalem Rift levels.

Exclusive Blizzcon Interview: Soulbound Legendaries and Trading Exceptions

Not to get all “major gaming site” and drag out an interview into twenty updates, but here’s a bit of a tease for the upcoming podcast (audio) and written transcript for the interview I conducted with Travis Day and Jason Regier at Blizzcon 2013. I spent several questions on economic issues, legendary items, and the trade and gold value ramifications of soul binding. As you probably know, that sort of thing is a strong interest of mine, and I could easily have burned the entire interview time on a discussion/debate about economic stuff.

Hands-On Reaper of Souls from Blizzcon 2013: Wolfpaq

Regular Diablo 3 Podcast guest Wolfpaq attended Blizzcon this year, and while I wasn’t able to meet up with him to get his quick reaction on Day One, he wrote up a beefy article detailing his impressions of the Reaper of Souls demo. It covers the Crusader and his skills, Adventure Mode and Nephalem Rifts, general gameplay impressions, and has a big list of descriptions of the legendary items he found.

Reaper of Souls PS4 Screenshots and Movie

Most of you guys are PC/Mac players so we concentrate on that, but the PS4 version of Diablo 3 made its semi-surprise playable demo debut at Blizzcon 2013. To coincide with this Blizzard released a bunch of screenshots and a gameplay movie showing it off the PS4 version of the game.

Reaper of Souls “Super Shrines”: Blizzcon 2013 Hands-On Guide

One of the cool new Reaper of Souls features to debut at Blizzcon is a new class of shrines. All the current six shrine types remain in the game with unchanged functions, but now about every third or fourth shrine you find as you explore the world is dark red in coloration, wreathed in flames, and offers a new, very powerful, short term buff. We don’t know how many such shrines there are in the game and they’re obviously still a work in progress, but I saw five of them in my play time.
