Starcraft 2 Digital Editions: $10 Sale

I hate to publicize it since I find the various “wings” a visual annoyance when other players are wearing them in multiplayer games of Diablo 3. (I wind up wasting at least half a dozen Crashing Rain blasts a game targeting another player as they zip on or off the edge of the screen and my peripheral vision detects them as a glowing Champion type enemy.)

The Curse of Tristram: D2.5 via SC2 Modding

Fans have created a playable Diablo game via extensive modding of Starcraft II, and the first five minutes can be seen in a new video on YouTube. It starts off where Diablo 2: Lod ended, with Tyrael about to destroy the Soulstone within Mt. Arreat. The hero is then sent back to Tristram and Deckard “Still Talking” Cain, where the battle begins.

Blizzard Battles the Ghost Town Effect

The “Ghost Town Effect” was first identified as a problem with Starcraft 2’s debut of Battle.net 2.0. Its legacy has marred the platform’s reputation as many have rechristened it as “Battle.net 0.2” based on its lackluster tools for matchmaking and socialization. This sentiment was not shared by all, but it spurred movements across the internet to bring change to the interface that was perceived as a step backward rather than a step forward.

Blizzard’s DoTA Trailer Revealed: Witch Doctor

Blizzard did announce one new game (sort of) at Blizzcon this year… it’s DotA! The *game* is basically a Starcraft 2 mod, with lots of new units and maps, but it’s sort of a new game too. Plus one of the main hero characters is the Witch Doctor, who appears to use abilities similar to his Diablo III skills, so it’s got that going for it. There’s a trailer with some tongue-in-cheek humor and nice visuals, if you’re curious.

Diablo II Featured in the Smithsonian Institute

Premier US museum the Smithsonian Institute is running an exhibit on The Art of Video Games, featuring 80 games from the forty year history of the medium. The show curator put 240 games on a ballot for a public vote, and 3.7 million votes later, they’ve got 80 titles, one of which is Diablo II.
