Police Search for Diablo 3 Walmart Thieves

Police in Fort Wayne Indiana are hunting for two men who have been raiding local Walmart stores and stealing copies of Diablo 3. The two men are thought to be aged between 20 and 26, one stocky and the other slender and tall, and they have been lifting copies from the Walmart counters and removing the security Spiderwire devices with a key and marching out. So far around 20 stores have been hit in Indiana and Ohio.

The Most Played Online Games

Much media coverage praising League of Legends is the most played online game in North America, over the past year. The stats are not exact, as they’re extrapolated from a small percentage of players, but it’s a good starting point for debate. Note that this is for the past year, from July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2012, so it’s far from even, since Diablo III only existed for 6 out of those 52 weeks. You could also point out that it’s unfair to compare paid subscription titles, paid purchase titles, and f2p.

Diablo 3 Still on Top of UK Charts

The UK charts for last week show that Diablo 3 is still king of the PC titles. The major launch on PC last week was Funcom’s MMO The Secret World which did not knock Diablo 3 off the top but managed a respectable second position. It looks like the Diablo name is still carrying quite some weight with gamers, despite a lot of recent negative press on general videogame websites.

Diablo III Cracked in China, and Digital Resales Are Legal in Europe

Interesting legal news about Diablo 3 from Europe and China, this week. The bigger news is from China, where Diablo III is technically illegal, as it’s still delayed by the usual Chinese government video game regulatory hell. Eager fans have been paying a fortune to get working copies from Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, etc, but now a more home-grown version is available, via hackers and piracy. “Blade and Soul” Surpassing Diablo III in Korea?

Numerous websites are reporting that the open beta test for an upcoming Korean RPG title, Blade & Soul, achieved higher users percentages (20.35% vs. 17.74%) than Diablo III, last weekend in Korean Baangs. Is Diablo III on the way out in Korea, with its first weekend under 20% play time? No, since the concurrency figures from last weekend are a bit misleading, as explained in a short post on GeekOSystem.
