Fascinating and very long article by a self-confessed Diablo 3 Auction House botter, talking about how he made over 100k Euros in a year, entirely through buying low and selling high on the AH and RMAH. The article is huge and goes into great detail about everything, including the scripts he used, the multiple machines he had running, and how easy it was to avoid Blizzard’s very lacking anti-botting measures.

It’s the The Last Day of the Diablo 3 Auction House with the shutdown coming up later tonight. It’ll go offline for Americas players during the regular early morning Tuesday maintenance time, and you should check the Auction House FAQ for full details. Now that we’re here, how do you guys feel about this end of an era? The AH has been controversial since it was announced, and while many players have used it extensively and enjoyed it, others feel it’s a terrible game feature (the whole thing and/or especially the Real Money aspect).

It’s an interesting time in the Diablo 3 community. Not only is the Reaper of Souls expansion coming in less than two weeks, but the Auction House is closing in one week, and Diablo 3 version 2 has been live for a couple of weeks. Any of these factors would create shifts in the economy, and when you throw all three together, weird stuff happens. We’ve seen crazy price swings for materials and gems, value added or subtracted from existing gear (formerly very pricey weapons with life steal are now being almost given away), and more.

There’s a new interview on PC Gamer with Diablo 3 / Reaper of souls developers. Lead Content Designer Kevin Martens and Level Designer Laura Paolilli field questions cover D3’s rough launch, Loot 2.0 changes, Reaper of Souls features, the shutdown of the Auction House, and lessons learned from D3 that led to the many improvements we see in D3v2 and will see many more of in Reaper of Souls.

We noticed first thing yesterday that the new Loot 2.0, Bound to Account Legendary items were showing up in the Auction House, and were selling, but then bugs ensued. Blizzard noticed too, and leapt into action with a couple of hotfixes, and then a more solid change during a brief server maintenance last night.

Not to get all “major gaming site” and drag out an interview into twenty updates, but here’s a bit of a tease for the upcoming podcast (audio) and written transcript for the interview I conducted with Travis Day and Jason Regier at Blizzcon 2013. I spent several questions on economic issues, legendary items, and the trade and gold value ramifications of soul binding. As you probably know, that sort of thing is a strong interest of mine, and I could easily have burned the entire interview time on a discussion/debate about economic stuff.

Katniss & Flux debate if the AH creates long term content, if so what happens when it’s gone?
