Diablo 3 Cinematics + Death Metal

1

An email from site reader John points us to a video for “Dead to Dust Descend,” a song by Swedish black metal band, In My Embrace, which features authorized usage of the Diablo 3 cinematics as a primary visual component. The entire 3+ minute video is clips from the sketchbook style artwork from the D3 and RoS cinematics, with added lyrics/text atop the background. As it’s as screaming-grunty as you might expect, you’ll need the words on the screen to understand a thing, but it does seem to be at least somewhat inspired by/themed to the cinematic visuals.

A Hollywood Writer Rates Diablo III’s Story

Most of the discussions I’ve heard (or taken part in) about Diablo III’s story and plot have praise for the game’s storytelling tools, much of the dialogue, and the background and world lore, which is deep and rich and interesting. The criticisms are more focused on the main plot, which feels dumbed down and predictable in a Hollywood-style, and especially the in-game cinematics which feature such treats as Cain’s utterly-anticlimactic death, Zoltan Kulle’s infuriating impression of a birthing coach, and about 10 more lecturing nagging holographic visits from Azmodan and Diablo than anyone wanted or needed.

Diablo III Commercial TV Spot

It’s available. And it’s epic. It’s just a shame that it isn’t longer. One thing I did notice, though, is that the Diablo reveal in this video looks much more polished and suitable than the one that was pulled from the 15th Anniversary site shown 4 months ago. Enjoy the short clip – nearly 2 weeks to go.

Witch Doctor Spotlight Video Debuts

The next spotlight has been put put up for the Witch Doctor on IGN. This is one of the better videos yet; there’s some nice insight into the Witch Doctor’s backstory, plus the gameplay footage is very good. It’s not the headless chicken style of gameplay video we’ve become used to, but a nice demonstration of a wide variety of Witch Doctor skills and rune effects, including a good close up look at the Gargantuan minion.
