Diablo Sculpture and Bust from Blizzcon 2011

HolyKnight points us to Blizzard artist Sam Yang’s post on 3D modeling site Z Brush, which shows off an amazing Diablo sculpture he created as part of the on-stage art demos at this year’s Blizzcon. It’s a shockingly-detailed and oh-so-3D view, showing Diablo’s spikes and scales and even the odd, toothy-mouths on his shoulders. Click the pic for a larger view, and also check out the finished sculpture created from this 3D prototype.

Kevin Martens and Josh Mosqueira Blizzcon 2011 Interview

Fmulder dug up another Blizzcon 2011 interview, this one conducted by Merlin’in Kazani and featuring Kevin Martens and Josh Mosqueria. Kevin does most of the talking in this six-minute piece (Josh gets like, one console question) and supplies details about D3’s story, returning D2 classes, the Diablo 3 Beta being too easy, expansion/DLC plans, and more. An approximate quote I transcribed quickly:

Leonard Boyarsky Blizzcon Interview

Fmulder spotted a new Leonard Boyarsky interview on NAG Online. It was recorded last month at BlizzCon, and covers lots of interesting story and plot stuff. How LeBo transitioned from being an artist into doing story and content, how they worked story into Diablo III, how they wanted to update the lore and world state from previous games, etc.

More BlizzCon Arena Demo Coverage

Tom’s Hardware has posted an article about the Blizzcon 2011 Diablo 3 PvP Arena Demo. It’s fairly short, with just a paragraph each on the Demon Hunter, Wizard, and Barbarian, but if you’ve soaked up all of our previous PvP Demo articles, you might want to give it a look.

Julian Love Interview @ DiG

Digital Innovation Gazette spoke with Julian Love, presumably at Blizzcon 2011. The questions are more about how the developers work than what’s in the game, and thus it’s got some stuff we haven’t seen twenty times before.

The Diablo Podcast #50: Blizzcon 2011 Recap

The fiftieth episode of The Diablo Podcast features Flux speaking with regular guest Neinball and first time guest Grug about their experiences at this year’s BlizzCon convention. They guys have hit 8 Blizzcons between them (and Flux has been to 4) so there’s a lot of past experiences compared to this year’s, which both guests enjoyed quite a bit.

Shark Form Azmodan = Blizzard North Monster

During the Black Soulstone cinematic panel at BlizzCon 2011, the D3 devs talked about early concepts for Azmodan, and showed off one very odd “human with a shark’s head” type of monster, as their earliest version of Azmodan. You can see concept art of it to the right, and even a casual glance shows that creature has nothing in common with the version of Azmodan seen in Diablo 3. That Azmodan is basically a corpulent human on crab legs; huge, fleshy, grotesque, and not at all human in form, while that earlier version was a muscular human with a shark’s head.

Portrait Studies of all Five Classes

These five images were shown in a developer feature during the Blizzcon Live Stream, each one picturing the faces of the male and female of each class. These appear in the game as your character’s portrait when they’re speaking various lines of dialogue, but those views are thumbnail sizes. These are huge, each M/F pair is nearly a desktop-sized image, so check them out.

Blizzcon 2011 Poster Artwork and Sheablo Speculation

Blizzard has finally released the Blizzcon 2011 poster artwork in a high quality digital image (as a wallpaper), and it’s a good chance for us to once again view Diablo and his/her child-bearing hips. Debate about this has raged since the event, with the most obvious conclusion/rumor that a female is somehow possessed by Diablo’s spirit, soul-stone style.

Jason Bender Blizzcon 2011 Interview

The Blizzcon interviews keep coming, and this is one of the best ones yet, with Blizzard’s Jason Bender talking with Nathon Grayson of VG24/7. I mean “talking” literally; it’s like a conversation from a podcast, rather than the usual press guy reading off a list of unrelated questions that are replied to with pat answers.

Robert Bridenbecker Interview on the RMAH

There’s still some BlizzCon stuff appearing and we must have missed this one when it was posted (slaps wrists), although it was posted by Azzure on Diablo3Markets a couple of days ago.
