One Life to Live: Rebirth

Well that took longer than I thought. Apparently having a second child is more demanding than having the first. We have thankfully begun to hit our stride and I now can comfortably type and sooth an infant again. Which is ironic as that would have been my Job at blizzard had I taken it…queue drum.

One life to live: Twas the Night before Season 4

Twas the night before Season 4 and all through the house
not a device was clicking not even a mouse.
The redbull was stocked on shelf with care,
in the hopes that the patch would soon be there
The adults nestled snug in their beds,
while dreams of loot goblins danced in their heads
and Leah with her ‘kerchief, and I with my cap,
settle our brains in for a long season’s nap
When out on the internet there rose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the screen I flew like a flash,
Opened multiple windows and cleared my cache,
The light on the screen shined of the demonic glow,
Gave a lustre of midday to objects below,
When what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But a Kanai’s cube and season 4 premier,
With everyone racing to 70 I had to be quick,
But it’s hardcore, so be safe, or be dead as a brick.

One life to live: Diablo 3 PTR and Hardcore

So many new toys, so many new choices, so much waiting! While the queue may have been a bit long, the rush for 2000% drop rates has subsided and testing seems to not be as much of an arduous task. Which makes it a lot easier to speculate how this this will all shake up our mode for HC.

One life to live:Hardcore power leveling eliminates death

I had a scary moment today during a huge lag spike in the middle of an elite pack of molten wasps set to explode. I frantically hit spirit walk and my potion and began to haphazardly smash the keyboard hoping to have hit the right combo before death could over take me.As I waited I realized I had a whole set of gear in my stash and it would be okay. A wave of calm swept over me as the lag spike receded. I survived the ordeal but it had me wondering when did death become so much less of a penalty?

One life to live: Back from the dead

Oh,man it’s been too long. I’ve failed you dear reader, as my posts have dropped off the face of the earth. In fact I’ve created far more drafts than I have posts in the past two months. However, all is not lost, the column continues forward with new vigor and damn it, this time I’ll hit publish. Let’s face it there’s been a lot to write about, and a lot to play with, and by association a lot to catch up on.

Guest Article: D3 Expansion #2: Skovos and Druid/Amazon?

One of our long time forum users, Nobbie, has written a well-researched speculative article about the second Diablo 3 Expansion. No such product has yet been confirmed, but most fans expect it to be revealed soon, possibly in August at Gamescom 2015 (RoS was announced at Gamescom 2013). The main topics of speculation about an expansion are 1) where will Act Six take place, and 2) what will be the seventh class? (Assuming it is a full expansion like Reaper of Souls, rather than a smaller DLC type product with just a new class, new Rift tilesets, some new item systems, etc.)

Guest Article: New BiS Legendary Rings in Patch 2.2.0

Blizzard has repeatedly spoken of their desire to break up the BiS legendary ring trifecta of RoRG/Unity/SoJ, and the devs want to do it by adding more gear variety, rather than nerfing any of the current big three. Their approach seems to be working, judging by the much greater gear variety seen now on the PTR, and here’s how it’s happening.

One Life to live: Season’s Fleeting

Two weeks into the season and I am done. No I didn’t die, I’m not rage quitting, I’m now too immersed in the PTR to jump back to live. However the short time I spent on Season 2 has been great and reignited my passion for the game.

One life to live: Prize for your Demise

Season 2 is only a matter of hours away. New characters are about to be born and in Hardcore it’s only a matter of time before they are taken away. As I mentioned in my last column, it’s with season two that we have a contest to coincide with your untimely departure from Sanctuary. For the next 6 weeks we’ll be giving out limited edition Goblin Posters to those who meet their fate in HC.

One life to live: Tis the Season

The race to 70, the absence of gold, artisans, hellfire rings, and high level friends to boost you. It’s all gone away and it’s hard not to be excited. I still recall the rush of playing my first WD on launch day, wading through it all with no support and no fallback. Did reaching 60 take awhile? Of course but it also felt really good. Everything else after that was easier since I blazed the trail for myself. That is an experience you didn’t get with RoS, everything was established, gold was banked, gear still usable, and friends prevalent. However, with a season wipe we can do it all again.

One life to live: Diablo 3 Console Hardcore

Having had an xbox sitting in my house for a while it was only a matter of time before I brought Diablo 3 on console into my life. However, part of the experience that really makes it shine is having people to play with. Since my wife is a non-gamer, and my son is three I was out of luck.
