Weird Al Yankovic to play BlizzCon 2016

Blizzard has revealed this year’s closing act for BlizzCon 2016 and it’s going to be Weird Al Yankovic.

The Grammy Award–winning pop parodist will be taking the stage the evening of Saturday, November 5, to provide an epic send-off for everyone celebrating this year’s convention. If you didn’t score tickets to the show, Blizzard gamers and Weird Al fans around the world can still get a front row seat at home with the BlizzCon Virtual Ticket.

BlizzCon is the biggest Blizzard party of the year, packed with in-depth developer panels, intense esports tournaments, the legendary Friday night contests, and what’s sure to be an epic finale from Weird Al.

While Weird Al was relatively amusing when I was about 10 years old, but he’s not someone I would have to see live. It’s a pretty “weird” choice when you consider previous years have hosted the likes of Metallica and Ozzy.

Thankfully I won’t have to sit through it this year. I’m sure he’s a great guy, and perhaps the 16-20 audience will get a kick out of it, but he’s been around since 1976 so the younger audience might not get some of the older material.

    1. Huh?

Well, maybe he’ll do a cover of Twilight of the Thunder God by Amon Amarth or something……..

    2. I personally would have thought Weird Al was a better fit for the nerdy audience than Metallica or Ozzy was.

“but he’s been around since 1976 so the younger audience might not get some of the older material.”

Why on earth would he play any of his older material? He’s done a lot of new stuff in recent years, parodying Lorde, Robin Thicke, Iggy Azalea, Foo Fighters, Miley Cyrus, One Direction, Carly Rae Jepsen, Lady Gaga, Kesha and Pharrell Williams.

    3. I think it’s pretty cool. Yes, I’m old, but he’s still funny, & not everyone goes for one particular style of music (or for you young’uns, what they imagine to be music).

      • “Amish Paradise” is a great starter. If anything look into his movie “UHF”. Still one of the more funny things is a recurring characters of a blind guy asking a very strange homeless man if he solved a rubix cube. “Is this it?” “Nope!” “Is this it?” “Nope!” I’m sure you’ll have fun 😉

I just read that after some early morning rifting on the Bnet thing, this is hilarious! I would go to Blizzcon if I could just for this guy!

Perfect catering to the 30+ male gamer nerd internet virgin, hahaha. I mean, you don’t know Weird Al unless you’re like, old ^^

In any case, this should be a lot more entertaining than just another rock band.

They actually don’t even need to have any Blizzcon event at all, just tell us about the future of Diablo or gtfo!

    5. Everybody knows Weird Al. You would have to be freshly plopped out of your mothers ass to not know this legendary man.

    6. this idiot , uber stupid music , almost no panels for diablo , its gonna be a verry bad blizzcon this year
