Vote: v1.0.5 Approval?

Now that DiabloWikiPatch 1.0.5 has been live for a week and you guys have had a chance to try it out… whaddya think? Most of the feedback on skill and difficulty changes has been pretty positive, and seeking the Infernal Machine seems to be a popular new minigame, though how long the bloom will last on that rose remains to be seen, as not-very-useful Hellfire Rings continue to accumulate in player stashes. Then again, if everyone got a great ring their first try, the novelty would wear off even sooner?

Pick a vote option that matches your level of enthusiasm, and we’ll see what we can see.

Last Vote Results

We’ve run several votes in news items since the last official vote post, and here are the results.

The news of the DiabloWikiHellfire Ring bugfix/nerf stirred up some passions and prompted a vote on the ring’s stats. Most of you guys felt the random stats on teh ring weren’t nearly a good enough reward for the effort, and I suspect those opinions have only strenghtened now that we’ve got numerous living examples of the ring, virtually all of which aren’t good enough for most players to want to wear them on anything but a Follower. Try to look at it like a scenic road in a car commercial; the journey is its own reward.

What do you think of the Hellfire Ring?

  • 2) It’s okay with some random, but it should have better guaranteed quality. (37%, 759 Votes)
  • 3) It’s lame. Needs to be MUCH better. (22%, 447 Votes)
  • 4) The whole concept is dumb. Shouldn’t be a ring. Charm! (19%, 391 Votes)
  • 1) I like the stats as they are. (15%, 300 Votes)
  • 5) No opinion / something else. (7%, 151 Votes)
  • Total Voters: 2,048

The last official vote post went up during the D3 PTR of v1.0.5 and measured how much use you guys were making of the advance testing opportunity. I was surprised how few of you had taken the plunge.

Have you tried out the D3 Patch Test Realm?

  • 4) None. Not interested, tech problems, etc. (48%, 1,489 Votes)
  • 3) Not tried it, but I’m kinda curious/considering it. (24%, 733 Votes)
  • 2) I tried it a little, but just a taste. (18%, 545 Votes)
  • 5) Dunno. PTR what? (6%, 187 Votes)
  • 1) Yes, I copied over characters and have tested thorougly. (4%, 134 Votes)
  • Total Voters: 3,088

The most recent vote appeared in a news post and then got promoted to the main nav bar. It asked how you guys feel about achievements in Diablo III, and was one of the rare votes where I found myself in agreement with the largest block. I’d have expected more completists and achievement hunters, and didn’t expect the 17% block of NO to so out weigh the Gotta Collect Them All faction.

What’s your attitude towards Diablo 3 Achievements?

  • 3) I like the *ding* but don’t make any special efforts. (38%, 1,016 Votes)
  • 2) I sometimes work for them, at least a little. (34%, 928 Votes)
  • 4) Do not want. Do not care. Achievements are stupid. (17%, 462 Votes)
  • 1) I must collect them all. Relentlessly. (9%, 251 Votes)
  • 5) No opinion / something else. (2%, 44 Votes)
  • Total Voters: 2,701

    1. I came back to try it and… the game is playable now I guess. It’s not really rocking my socks off, but it’s not boring me to tears either. The drop quality is markedly improved, but this has made no major practical difference yet.

It’s nice to see that upgrades aren’t 22-100 mil anymore though.

      • I agree. Beat 1.0.3 inferno and came back at 1.0.4 for a couple hours, but this patch has me playing more. I have a reason to kill stuff, a goal. I want keys, and organs, all to make rings that could potentially be good.

However, the game is still severely lacking. It needs to put the rpg back into the arpg. The only thing I can customize is some banner? I don’t want cosmetic customization, I want to define my character the way I play. I’d rather reroll new characters to try new builds…oh hey, now I can equip this twinked out ring to help me do it and have fun hellfire blasting things on mp10 normal!

Also…seriously…fix…the item system!!! Every single build for every single class wants the same stats on the same gear. Weapon type changes, but that’s about it. Give us the ability to make niche builds that actually work!

Also…stop nerfing? Let us feel overpowered. It isn’t like you can throw on 10mil gold worth of gear and do monster power level 10 or even level 5 for that matter. We should be able to cruise through monster power 0 inferno with just about any 6 skills.

    2. I came back to D3 after an extensive absence, and I’m finding that MP makes leveling a lot more fun 🙂

    3. I keep trying to vote for the last option but the poll keeps saying “Failed To Verify Referrer” when I click vote.

    4. ^ Yeah, I can’t vote either.

But I like the patch though. The legendary/set drop rates in the previous patches really weren’t reasonable. Much better now. They’re still rare (as they should be), but not as elusive as the Loch Ness Monster.

Being able to farm whichever act I choose is probably a bigger game-saver for me than the drop rates. No more Act 3 over and over and over… this is a really important change.

I’ve found a couple of keys, but it will probably be a little while before I start thinking about farming Hellfire rings. My characters just aren’t powerful enough to tackle the fights at a meaningful MP setting, but they’ll get there.

This is the version of D3 that should have come out of the box back in May.

    5. I like the gameplay changes the patch brought, but for some reason since 1.0.5 me and a couple friends on the EU realm are experiencing all kinds of laggy and stuttering behaviour in the game, which is not exactly fun on Hardcore. Up to 1.0.5 my online experience was virtually flawless, so I wonder what brought this turn for worse.

    6. I’m not going to lie D3 was essentially AH simulator before 1.0.5 for me – now, oh lord this game starts looking like D2 again. I would like to see 1 more change – more rares/chapmion packs and less random affixes that can roll on legendaries/weapons.

    7. Fantastic patch in all regards. My three 60s (DH, WD and barb) have all been affected positively and are more fun to play. Drops and drop rates are far more rewarding and noticably less predictable. One of the changes I like the most is that quests now spawn quest bosses with good drops – not only are quests worth doing now, they’re worth actively seeking out. Additionally, the MP system is working fine, and while I haven’t bothered to go after Hellfire rings yet (got my first key yesterday), that system seems fine on paper too.

As for the negative aspects, the main thing that bothers me is the dominance of crit and, in particular, crit damage. This was a problem way before 1.0.5, but the patch made it worse by giving jewelery ilvl 63 affixes and letting amulets roll up to 100% CD, making things that much worse. I hope the stat gets the same treatment as IAS, in that it’s nerfed by 50% and the damage loss is made up elsewhere.

The other, less important, complaint I have is how complicated the MF system has become, with MF being increased from several different sources (gear, paragon levels, valor stacks, MP levels), different MF sources being being subject to different MF caps and so on. I think they’ll have to simplify it at some point in the future as it’s getting kind of messy.

      • I think their future simplification of MF is expecting us all to have paragon 50+ characters and thus all having essentially max MF. Thus Monster Power becomes the only *real* MF, and the bonuses to it from gear become largely irrelevant. For Softcore, at least.

    8. Awesome patch. A ton of legendaries and sets are dropped for me every day since friday. I’m having a lot of fun with the game now.

    9. I was able to reach Act 3 inferno without the auction house yesterday, and 2 legendaries dropped in the same game session. 2!!! Granted, I couldn´t use them since I was playing a barb and those were for WD, and the items were not that awesome, but still a huge improvement. Rares with 5 NV are raining now. Also glad to see that there are no more low level items dropping in inferno, those were like a plague.

    10. Really good patch, to bad this is how the game should have been 6 months ago. After an extensive absense from this game, and quiting right around 1.03, trying 1.04 out for a day or two, and now trying 1.05, I can say its got me playing, and coming back. For how long, I don’t know, but hopefully the next patchs continue this 1.05 level of improvement and changes “Just re-balance all the skills, add a large event like the infernal machine, add a system as large as monster power, and completely improve the drop/item system.” Just keep doing that over and over, and this game could get really good really fast.
