Vote for your 2014 Diablo 3 New Year’s Resolutions

It’s the season for New Year’s Resolutions, so how about some with a Diablo 3 theme? Most NYRs are really boring with the same old crap: start exercising, stop drinking/smoking, spend less/save more, etc. But how does any of that tie into Diablo 3, or video games?

So here are some D3-themed NYRs you can vote on, or not. Pick as many as apply, and if you have much better ones (a safe bet) share them in comments.

  1. NYR are serious business…. and world peace isn’t?

    BTW Flux: demon huinters….

  2. Funny but we need an option for the stalkers?

Stop stalking the site for a game I no longer play just to ask “People still play this game?”

  3. Barb is getting nerfed? I hardly noticed on PTR. After swtiching out some of a WW gear for survival gear and reuniting with good old friends Revenge and Rend, I can again faceroll anything that comes in my path.

  4. I’m already curing world peace, whether I want to or not. I’m a US taxpayer. :p

    • You’re right … not really much to cure anymore ^^. On the german side we got us the “austerity project” of our all beloved chancellor. (Or not…) Has austerity ever done anything at all than leading to world war?

      • You have no idea to what extent that is true…
        Lost generation is one thing.
Resentfull and extremist prone generation is a whole different thing…

Anyways, curing world peace has greater chances than curing diablo? YaY or NaY?

  5. “Cure world peace” makes it sound like peace is a disease. Flux showing his true colors? 🙂

  6. @ “Witch Doctors: To dream of a day when there’s something even half as useful as Zombie Bears.”

I’ve already found a new skill setup that is at least twice as useful as Zombie Bears. 😉

      • Cloud of Bats is still pretty good, although not as good as on live. You need to stack a lot of LoH, instead of a single decent piece of Steal. What Doctors really need is more Mana on Hit, and more ways to force Globes to drop. W/ a lot of Cooldown gear, you can cover a lot of ground w/ Grasp to proc globes/dogs, but it never really helps in the middle of a tough Champion fight where things don’t die enough to drop globes. Maybe a way to get globes to drop on damage, not just on kill?

        • Considering such immensely powerful new WD passives like Creeping Death, I’d say that Bears & Bats are probably two of the worst choices you can make in RoS.

      • My main attacks are Exploding Toads and Searing Locusts. Level 70 Hardcore WD with Master on farm status, no mumbo-jumbo gear like the Living Oath ceremonial knife with bugged DPS.

  7. @”Wizards: To remain anonymous and forgotten, but strong in your secrecy.”
You think that Blizz won’t notice that we’re OP now, and will let as be?
I feel good about choosing Barb and Wiz as my main at Open Beta Weekend 😀

  8. To be patient and stop whinging about balance in a beta test, and trust in Blizzard. (22%, 43 Votes)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I shall find and eradicate all forms of peace wherever it exists!

    BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD.

  10. World peace shall be our downfall. If we do not stop it now, future generations will never forgive us.

  11. To never be swindled again by a company that has forgotten how to make great games.

  12. To go back to D2 and start enjoying a Real Blizzard game, and forget about D3 since blizzard enjoys taking a warm steaming shit on console players.

  13. So what’s the deal Flux? Only you can whine? Whenever you’re not getting what you like it’s waa waa waaa … but, if it’s someone else’s concern you’re always sarcastic? I’m starting to think this is a vanity site.

    • I’m starting to think too many people on the internet have no sense of humor. (Not really; I realized that ages ago.)

      • I get flux’s sense of humor most of the time. But, he’s pretty darn serious about the changes he wants in game. And, I still feel like he’s a major representative for the players.

I just wish he was a little less biased. That said, I really like to hear flux, enjoy his shows and get a lot from this site.

But, as the game I love starts to shape up, I start to feel some serious urgency about trying to make sure that alternative solutions some how get to the ears and minds of the game developers.

I’m the 1% that doesn’t like bound items, that’s not impressed with some of the changes coming and hopes that they will fix a few more issues. I’m also hoping that they beef up all of the other classes but, stop nerfing the barb. The barb is just fun to play for me and tons of people. And, after playing the PTR, I can honestly say the barb is now less fun.

How about instead of killing that class we make the other classes bad ass.

  14. 22 months? Really, for the first 3-4 months weren’t Barbs considered the weakest class? Sorry the Wizard never panned out as you had hoped Flux, but stop the Barb hate plox.

  15. Witch doctors is all I voted on ….

  16. Definitely the Demon Huinters vote for me!
Hey, we DO thrive on hatred, don’t we now? 😉

I think that it is quite unlikely for alternative solutions/extra changes to make RoS launch, but that large changes can still be released. There were tons of changes to D3 from release until RoS launch, and many of them were extremely large changes. As a result, I think it is not at all impossible to send developers new ideas and influence them, but that it is unlikely for those ideas to actually become part of the game (probably unlikely to happen at all, and if it did happen, it wouldn’t be for a while).

In terms of the changes so far, I’m pretty much on board with most of the changes. I’m inbetween on the bound items, but I think that it is overall a better system than we had. Overall I suppose I don’t really love trading in a game like Diablo; trading tends to be an ‘either/or’ deal, where you either have trading that overwhelms item finding, or trading that is mostly useless. Consider the possibilities: if drops are balanced around trading (as they were in D3V and PoE) then drops tend to be worse, because players are expected to acquire high-tier items via trade rather than by finding them. This makes the game feel unrewarding to play, which is the most common criticism I’ve heard about the AH. However, if drops are balanced around finding items rather than trading, then trading becomes functionally useless. Assuming that you got roughly one legendary/set per hour, why would you trade? You might get what you wanted a little faster via trading, but you could acquire it for free just by farming. One way or another, you can make trading work, but even if you have drops balanced around self-found and allow trading, trading will feel unnecessary because you’ll get what you wanted just by finding it. Because of this, the only items worth anything will be perfect/near-perfect rolls, which would likely be absurdly expensive, similar to the 2 billion gold items, or 250$ USD items. I’m sure that some people would still trade, but I think that most would find trading to be mostly unnecessary and useless unless they were at the very top of the wealth pyramid.

As for the Barbarian changes, I think it’s really only you that is complaining about the old Barb going away. I’ve looked on the Barbarian forum, and most people are excited to try new builds and not feel restrained to playing one OP build. Ultimately, I’m not really sure what to say to you except that things change, and you’ve got to accept it. The Barb still feels perfectly viable anyways, just not that one build. In terms of the other classes, I haven’t played many of them but I can confidently say that (at least for PTR; I don’t have RoS beta) the Wizard is much more of a bada** and has many more viable build options. Wizard has 4 skill runes that each increase the damage of a certain element (either fire, lightning, cold or arcane) by 15% for 4 seconds after using the skill. In addition, a lot more runes change the damage types of spells, so it is perfectly viable to a pure element build to capitalize on that bonus. In addition, the Shield mechanic is fantastic for the Wizard; I predict that one of the strong builds for Wizard will be full-Attack-Speed Deflection Wizard. To explain, Spectral Blades has a rune called Shielding Blades that gives you X Shield for 3 seconds, stacking each time you attack. Magic Weapon also has a rune called Deflection that provides this same effect. An Attack Speed-based Wizard would be able to very quickly generate a lot of Shield, protecting him/herself from a lot of incoming damage. Furthermore, two new passives help the build survive and deal damage: one rewards you for standing still, giving you 20% extra Armor and Allres and 10% increased damage after you’ve stood still for 1.5 seconds. The other one increases your damage to enemies within 15 yards by 20%. Since Spectral Blades is a melee skill, this allows you to deal significantly heightened damage while maintaining high survivability. As a Wizard player I could not be happier with what Blizzard has done with the class.

  18. I got an idea, how about they;
-Give the barb the sorces skills
-give the monk the DH skills
-give the sorc the monk skills
-give the witch doctor the barb skills
-and give the DH get the WD skills

couldn’t make the game any worse right? lol be a awesome one day April fools joke
