The Portrait of a Champion Contest

It seems that the hype train is continually building steam as Blizzard has just started a new contest called “The Portait of a Champion.” They have not yet announced the prizes for the winners. If you’re going to enter, get a head start on it now since they are not yet accepting entries.

As DiabloWikiZarhym had hinted to in a tweet a while back, he stated that he was working on promotional materials/contests that would mark the upcoming release date announcement for Diablo 3. I would only assume that this would equate to The Dominion campaign for Starcraft 2 that rallied artists from around the world to develop propaganda, fill out quizzes, etc.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. If so, then a brush stroke may portend the beginning of a saga; the merest scratch of a pen on parchment can be the seed of a legend. Hone your craft, for the time has come for you to take up your tools… and bring a hero to life.

If you are up to the challenge, then we invite you to join the DiabloWikiDiablo III Portrait of a Champion Art Contest. We ask that you use your skills to immortalize a mighty champion of Sanctuary. Perhaps your original artwork will capture a monk, deep in meditation, calmly preparing to face the slavering minions of hell. You could create a thrilling piece capturing the moment a mighty wizard blasts demonic fiends into dust. Whichever of Diablo III’s mighty heroes you choose to depict, and whatever tale your art tells, let the power of your creativity guide you. We will feature the most impressive pieces on the Diablo III community site, and the very best pieces could win some equally impressive prizes.

There is no time like the present to begin forging an image that is sure to sway our hearts, but remember that any images you submit must wholly be comprised of your own, original imagery, cannot exceed a resolution of 1600 x 1200, and may be no larger in size than 5 MB. We will begin accepting contest entries soon so do not delay, for Sanctuary’s darkest hour approaches.

Will any of the artists here at IncGamers be entering?

  1. I’m not an artist but I have a great idea.
This must be the beginning of their hype ladder to release. Same thing for SC2 and numerous WoW expansions.

  2. No I will not be entering because I won’t be eligible to.

  3. ^^ Muahahaha
Move aside Picasso, here comes the Faceless One ! I could stare at it for hours, oh Master ! *bows*

  4. Blizz could at least do what Runic Games did 2 months ago when they had a similar contest: put the winning entry into game.

  5. Watch most and the best of the entries be about the Necromancer to spite Diablo 3.

  6. “Sanctuary’s darkest hour approaches.”

    S.O.R.?

    xD

  7. I guess the Bliz CMs need something to fill the hours they spend not answering fan questions on the forums, but seriously… that’s a LOT of blue words to announce a fan art contest.

    • I wish they’d do a few coffee runs for the developers instead.

    • Completely offtopic, but can anyone provide me with a link to the WoW cataclysm credits online? I’ve been told of Blizzard’s internal release date for Diablo 3 by someone that claims to have worked at Blizzard (from what I can see on their facebook page, I have no reason to doubt this claim) and I’d like to confirm their name in the cataclysm credits if possible.

  8. yeah great way to steam up a hype train by announcing delay after delay…….awesum job Blizz. meanwhile, here’s MY entry, whadayathink?

  9. OT, some stupid european random sites (italian and polish) have gotten their beta keys to hand out. Im starting to lose hope Blizzard will actually send us a big wave and instead decides to chuck a couple o’ hundred to poland and italy and say those were the beta keys that were coming to Europe. I’ve lost my hope to play this game before release..

Back on topic, im not gonna spend time on a contest from Blizzard anymore. I love one of their games, i dislike more and more about them, so f*** anything that is not diablo 3 beta or diablo 3 full version.

      Couldn’t be happier, i’m polish 😛

Sucks to be you i guess 😛

  10. The beta sucks anyways, 20 hours of game play at most. I know it’s a beta, and if you ever try to report an issue guess what, 5,000 other people who got the key before you already has it reported. To top it off it feels like this game has ripped of Torchlight.

    • yeah, such a shit beta to only be interesting for 20 hours even though the content is at maximum 1 and a half hours worth of gameplay. What a rip off to be FORCED by blizzard to playTEST their game before official release and then be bored after roughly 13 times the time you’d normally spend on the available gameplay. What assholes.

  11. What a f***ing stupid idea.  They should just let Holyknight3k choose and be done with it.  diii(dot)net FTW.

They’re even spoon feeding us on how to do an art contest! lol  Wait for the updated contest where you just download a color by numbers outline to fill in with crayon.

  13. I’m in!  Haven’t done any Diablo Fanart since I did ‘Milabrega’s Last Stand’ back in 2010.  Got a killer idea this time around! 😀
