    1. Some weird sync issues going on with the audio since there are many spots with two people talking over each other.

      • No. They just been talking through each other – just been rude 🙂

      • On longer shows my audio tends to get delayed a bit. Not noticeable in real time, but in the recording it’ll start to lag half a second after about an hour and messes up any quick joking exchanges.

        I need better recording software, or else just remember to stop the recording and start a new one after 40m or so.

    2. In regards to paragon grind getting in the way of leaderboards. What about a paragon tiered leaderboard? So each solo leaderboard would have an additional drop down to sort by paragon level in groups, say 1-200, 200-400, 400-600, 800+. As a casual player, I rarely get above 400 paragon in a season, and it would be nice to strive for some type of leaderboard I have a chance to compete in. Let the large epeen players have their 800+ or 1000+ leaderboards. Love to hear your thoughts.

      • Only if you could have a way to turn off your paragon gain.

        It would suck to be the leader in the 201-400 paragon bracket, only to gain an extra paragon level and go to the bottom of the 401-600 bracket.

        • That was the idea of [email protected] is D1. Must complete hell difficulty quick enough without killing to many monster or it is lost. The difference with this idea is that you have to wait for another season to compete. Of course you would have to keep your 201-400 best GR when enterering P401. I like this idea.

    3. Really good observation about the auction house fiasco. I never thought about it, but who knows the bad taste it’s left with the higher ups at Blizzard/Activision, and if that’s why the game is in the state it’s in.

    4. High damage numbers: Wouldn’t it at this point of the power creep be more practical to just switch to displaying percentages of mobhealth diminished instead?

    5. A couple of really good points in there I thought – the talk around not wanting to have to force players out of the game to find information being contrasted to the design of “you can see certain things but not others”. Vanilla WoW was very much about having to go out of game to sites like Thotbot and Wowhead and there has been a trend (an unsteady one but it’s definitely happened) in moving away from that over the years. Interestingly though that was driven a lot by the modding community that exists around WoW – quests being signposted with arrows… done in a mod first, being able to see damage numbers on the screen properly (“scrolling combat text” in WoW speak)… done in a mod first, boss abilities being signposted… done in a mod first, etc. The other side of that coin is that they do, from time to time, like the community to deep-dive into the numbers and really get stuck into theorycrafting; we saw that recently for D3 with the Cube and the CMs asking people on the forums what builds they were thinking of and in WoW (I know, me sorry…) with a guild called Elitist Jerks who used to put together dossiers on ability rotations/stat priorities/boss strategies, etc. And they must have liked it because there’s achievements named after this sort of stuff in the game now. Obviously D3 doesn’t have any of that which means that all of the creative burden falls on the *small* dev team to dream up the solution rather than being able to look around at what is currently working with the player base.

      Over the levelling idea… OK, it didn’t go down well. What I meant when I brought it up is that none of us are honestly bothered about levelling up from 1-70. It doesn’t do anything and it doesn’t achieve anything. The more I think about it the more it seems like a sacred cow for the sake of it – like with not having rune words. Because you’d have to look them up on the internet. Which was a pain when D2 was in full swing and the internet was a baby but… things have moved on. All it does is gate content away from more casual players and that does have a knock-on effect in bringing new players into the game. We’re sitting here raving about how great the cube is but if someone watches a D3 streamer on Twitch (which Blizzard want them to do) and then thinks “I’ll buy the game!” (which Blizzard want them to do) then they get into the game and go “Oh. Now I can’t do any of that really cool stuff…” and stop playing the game (which, presumably, Blizzard don’t want them to do). I accept though that levelling is most definitely a Blizzard *thing*. All their games have it and the issue about gated content is the same in D3 as in WoW and it’ll be the same issue when Overwatch comes out as well.

      • Leveling is not just a Blizzard thing, and if any major publisher were to dump leveling as it is out of their game, Blizzard would be a better candidate than say, Square Enix. Leveling up Leg Gems isn’t all that exciting, but it’s a better system than the stupid leveling system. They need something like the old Mega Man system. In order to gain new powers and weapons, you had to beat the bosses. That’s much better than this leveling garbage. And paragon is a damn cancer, to boot.

    6. Good podcast this time, but I agree that there seemed to be some sync issues – sometimes someone was replying to something that was only heard on the podcast a couple of seconds later … weird.

      One comment on I believe Cymra, where you stated that regarding the stricter EU laws, the D3 EULA or TOS state that Blizzard can basically stop your service/ban you whenever they want: That is true, but in multiple countries in the EU, TOS or EULA that are have illegal points are not binding, even if you accept them. I’m no lawyer, but that topic came up a lot before D3 was released and during Vanilla because of the Auction House and all the legal issues around it (people getting scammed, bots etc.).

      • The US can void any TOS or EULA if it violates US law, as well, not to mention individual states. In fact, I’m pretty sure any industrialized country w/ a functioning court and law system can do this. The trick is to find and pay a lawyer enough to get it that far. The software companies have much, much more money and legal representation than the average gamer.
