The Dark Library #35: Endgame

?If that?s what you want to do Kris then I won?t stop you.? Paul said after the conclusion of the meeting. ?I haven?t seen my father?s grave in over 2 years. I think it is a good time to go and visit.? I said as I looked at Paul. ?Let James know to watch the place for me while I am away.? Paul nodded. ?I will; you take care of yourself out there.?

Meanwhile James had left the meeting early as another group of guests arrived. James greeted them and sat down at the large chair. ?Greetings friends and welcome to The Dark Library. I am James Lourdes; assistant to the Curator Kristof Williams. I will be your host this evening as we check out the latest tomes from the library.

?We begin tonight friends with Chapter 9: Dark Rider from the tome: Bane – Hero of the North by writer DiabloWikiBane.?

    Bane repeated the hand signal again, his movements fluid but slow enough so his new companions could learn the art of Kentu, the hand-code used by the barbarians during the hunt. Bane had gone through it with Kabana, Balkin and Chiana for several days before hand, explaining each hunting symbol that could be made using the hands.

As James sets down the refurbished old tome he notices a note sticking out of the library?s poetry tome; it was from me. I had written a poem of my late father and wanted it added to the library?s collection. In the note I asked him to shared it. ?Next up friends is a new poem written by the curator himself called; You were there…?

    When I was all but dead;
    You were there.

    Even when most hated;
    You were there.

    When the council debated;
    You were there.

James sets down the tome and reaches for another book. A new entry recently found in the east wing. ?Next up we have another old and recently recovered tome called Endgame by writer DiabloWikiAnyee?.

    We?d always assumed the magic would be there, that the forces of nature, the elementals, the spirits of the damned and blessed alike would come when bidden to our fingertips.

?And finally tonight is another story recovered from the lower levels of the main wing to the southwest by writer DiabloWikiNephilim called Last Dance?.

    Aside from the clouds on the horizon, silvered from the light of the moon, the sky was perfectly clear this night. Every star shone in conjunction with the gleaming moon to illuminate the countryside so well that it might as well have been daytime. The gears within the old clock tower creaked and squealed as they propelled the minute hand to the top of the face. It was one o’clock. But the bellringer was asleep, and the birds were quiet.

?That is all my friends please take your time and enjoy yourselves here.? James looked out of the corner of his right eye and saw me walking out of the lobby as Paul walked up to him. Paul told him of the situation and James leaned forward in the chair. ?So that is that then. He won?t be back for a while then.? he said as he looked up at Paul. ?Yes old friend, but this place will endure for now. I just hope he is safe as he goes on his journey. I don?t know how long he will be. But that is that for now; Yes. He wanted me to have you be interim Curator again in his stead.? James nodded as he and Paul left the lobby and headed up the stairs back to the lobby.
