Silent Blues = Blizzard is Preparing for Blizzcon

blizzcon 2014A fan asked why so few Blue replies of late, and got a Blue reply. Magic! Silent Blues = Blizzard is Preparing for Blizzcon:

I got used to seeing a few blue responses, and like a hotfix a week. Lately there has been just utter silence from all blue posts and hotfixes. Anyone know whats up?

Whenever Blizcon is on the horizon, blue posts and changes become scarce because they are preparing for it. If they leaked all their plans in advance, then they will not have much to present at the convention.
Tyvalir: The weeks leading up to BlizzCon are an exciting and busy time, and we’re looking forward to sharing some new info with all of you shortly. At the same time, it’s worth noting that it’s quite normal for there to be periods of time in Diablo IIII where there’s just not a lot of info to share, especially between patches.

All the same, we really do appreciate you all sharing your feelings about the game, where you want to see improvements, and what you hope to see in the future. Above all, we hope you remember that just because we may not be as talkative as usual, it doesn’t mean we aren’t listening (or working on the game)!

In my all-too-long experience, I can say that a general decrease in Blue forum activity is a pretty common thing pre-Blizzcon. Tyvalir says they’ll have new infos for us soon, which I assume means at Blizzcon. We’ve heard nothing about their Blizzcon plans, aside from the two D3 panels previously announced as part of the show schedule:

  • Friday at 2:15 – 3:15 PST – Diablo III, What’s Next. Join the Reaper of Souls developers as they discuss the new features and concepts that will be coming soon to the world of Sanctuary.
  • Saturday 12:45 – 1:45 PST – Evolving Reaper of Souls. Explore the team’s ever-evolving design philosophies, and learn about changes now in development. Then watch the developers team up with the community to create a new Legendary item for looting in a future patch.
  • I’ll be at the show this year, checking out the new (?) stuff and chatting with some of the devs. Presumably they’ll have a playable D3 demo, but what could it hold, if anything, in terms of new content? What do you guys expect from Blizzcon 2014 in terms of Diablo 3?

    What do you expect for Diablo 3 from Blizzcon 2014?

    1. “it’s worth noting that it’s quite normal for there to be periods of time in Diablo IIII where there’s just not a lot of info to share”

      There’s a Diablo 4?!

    2. Surprisingly even vote distribution, and surprising (to me, at least) that D3Y is leading vote getter. I've yet to talk to anyone who seriously thinks we'll see the expansion at Blizzcon, and every time I argued for it (in a hypothetical sense) on the podcast I got no takers.

      Hope =/= expectation?

      • I voted for some good new info, but nothing as big as an expansion. Although I hope an expansion is revealed, I don’t think it’s realistic, given Blizzard’s usual timeline.

    3. Considering their schedule for Blizzcon lists Diablo at the absolute minimum of one 1hour event per day (coinciding with the first presentation of the WoW movie …), I'd be rather skeptical about another annoucement that weekend, too. Considering how they're still shying away from presenting any pure/uncombined sales figures for their first expansion, I'd not expect another one to be announced at all. Which is probably for the better.

    4. If D3 doesn't get four expansions (up to level 100) before D4, I'd be surprised. Blizzard really got the ball rolling with D3X1 and seasons, and they'll certainly take that chance.
