Season 4 Conquests and Power Creep

Unlike the new and enjoyable Season Journey which is composed entirely of Achievements you’ll “earn” through the (more or less) normal course of play, each Season also has some Conquests. These are like super achievements, e-peen style, requiring special efforts and a lot of end game grinding to achieve.

Conquests required some powerful characters to achieve in Season 3, but looking at the Season 4 conquests really shows how the developers expect the Power Creep to progress with the new items and DiabloWikiKanai’s Cube to add to the power of our characters.

Season Four Achievements

All conquests are identical for softcore and hardcore, with just different names. Softcore/Hardcore in the listing below:

There are some changes to the conquests since Season Three, and you can see that full list below. Interestingly, these S4 conquests have actually changed just since S4 began on the PTR several weeks ago. Click through to see how they’ve evolved (grown more difficult) and for a reference back to the S3 conquests, which had considerably lower numbers for most of the events. (What was GR50 is now GR60. What was T6 is now T10, etc.)

Season Four Conquests, v1

These S4 conquests have actually increased in difficulty since the PTR began. A fan captured the initial S4 versions of the conquests back in early July, when the PTR first began. Power Creep!

  • 6 LGems to rank 40 (now it’s 6 to rank 50).
  • Reach GR50. (Now it’s GR60).
  • Kill a bunch of Unique bosses on T6 (Now it’s on T10.)
  • The only thing that got easier is the boss kill conquest now gives you 30 minutes instead of just 20. But as you’ve got to do it 4 Torments higher, that’s only fair.

Note also that they removed the “Language” conquest from the start of S4, no doubt to the dismay of people who enjoy hunting up all the rarely-spawning lore books. (That one is still an Achievement, just not a Conquest.) I can’t argue the change; I’m not a real lore hunter, but even if I was, all the other conquests are about power gaming and grinding to make a really powerful character… not exploration. You could have completed the Lore Book one without going above Normal difficulty, which would have left it out of place compared to all the other “play to crush” style conquests.

    Season Three Conquests

The conquests as you see them now on the Live realm in Season Three.

    Sprinter (SC)/Speed Racer (HC)

  • Complete Acts 1-5 at max level in under 1 hour.
  • Avarice (SC)/Avarita (HC)

  • Complete a 50,000,000 gold streak while outside of The Vault and The Inner Sanctum.
  • Years of War (SC)/Dynasty (HC)

    • Reach Greater Rift Level 40 Solo with the bonuses of three of the following Class sets.
      • Immortal King’s Call
      • Might of the Earth
      • The Legacy of Raekor
      • Wrath of the Wastes
      • Armor of Akkhan
      • Roland’s Legacy
      • Thorns of the Invoker
      • Natalya’ Vengeance
      • Embodiment of the Marauder
      • The Shadow’s Mantle
      • Unhallowed Essence
      • Inna’s Mantra
      • Monkey King’s Garb
      • Raiment of a Thousand Storms
      • Helltooth Harness
      • Raiment of the Jade Harvester
      • Zunimassa’s Haunt
      • Delsere’s Magnum Opus
      • Firebird’s Finery
      • Tal Rasha’s Elements
      • Vyr’s Amazing Arcana
      • On a Good Day (SC)/I Can’t Stop (HC)

      • Level six Legendary Gems to rank 40.
      • Curses! (SC)/Stars Align (HC):

      • Kill 300 or more monsters in a Cursed Chest event at level 70 on Torment VI difficulty.

I guess killing 300 monsters from a Cursed Chest is easy pie with DiabloWikiKanai’s Cube powers enabled? And since gold find amounts are higher above T6, that one is also less than compelling, and Bliz didn’t want to just increase the numbers. (I “earned” Avirita the first day on the Patch 2.3 PTR entirely from a double spawn of Gilded Baron goblins on T8.)

You guys motivated for Conquests in Season 4? Have you pushed to achieve them in Season 3?

    1. I had to google e-peen. That is all.

    2. I like these, I just wish they would work like achievements where HC would also unlock SC. Ending out S3 by starting a fresh SC to get them all but the speed runs.

    3. Reaching a particular GRift level *without* any class set bonus is a pretty cool conquest, and certainly more interesting than the season 3 one of reaching a GRift level with all the different class sets, which I never gave a second thought. I'd probably attempt this new conquest, if it didn't require starting a new character for every single class… So basically I'm still not going to bother, but the new one is more interesting.

    4. Was hoping for a post about how the super long list of crappy lengendaries are finally getting fixed……instead it's more shinies and bliz glitter cookies. Bliz has been dragging their feet on this since loot 2.0 and in some cases vanilla. At this point it's obvious they are withholding upgrades and fixes on a massive scale so they can have additional content for the expansion. I cannot think of a single logical reason why it is taking so long to fix this relatively simple problem. It's way past time even for blizzard to have addressed this.I am really looking forward to using Kanai's cube but I am not looking forward to adding many legendaries that I will never ever ever use to it. The crappy legendaries should have been fixed before the cube was added. It's just common sense man and don't even get me started on legendaries without affixes!  Well, I guess I should stop typing and loot some more starfires, grandfathers, and pig stickers. I should probably throw in a Slorak's Madness for good measure….

      • They added 33 new items just in 2.3 and much more if you consider the other patches since the release of RoS. These include items that got a legendary power when they didn't have one before or were redesigned with a new one, but not balance changes (like the recent aura damage increase on Azurewrath), or even legendary gems. I also counted new sets as one item, which is kinda unfair since they require more time to create than one item, even though not every set piece has a bonus of their own. They even added new game systems along the way. If they've holding back something it's far from obvious. Why you think it is is beyond me. Maybe stop cherrypicking items that misrepresent the progress the devs made. _____ You should also consider that in a game where items scale in power to any degree high-end characters will naturally find more and more items trashy. That doesn't mean that those same items aren't useful as a stepping stone to the better ones. Slorak's Madness is actually a pretty good early weapon since they added the Disintegrate bonus to it.

        • I have a real problem when they add new items to the game when so many are still garbage. When is the last time you used a legendary spear HardRock? The ansewer is most likely never because they are all instabrim. You say I am cherry picking but how can I be when an entire class of weapon (legendary spears) are all garbage. You keep dodging around the point that its way past time for some of the crappy legendaries to be addressed. I agree they have made progress towards this end by updating certain legendaries but I will never agree with adding new ones if there are others still waiting for help. Fix what you have first please. Its like having a flooded basement with a weak foundation and then building a new floor above the rickety foundation. Makes no sense. You really like to bring up the argument that there needs to be garbage in the loot pool and I can understand that somewhat. However, there is still too much garbage in the item pool and it needs to be addressed with more urgency by the dev team. You seem to have a blind faith in almost all manners D3.

          • I think your analogy to a weak foundation is false. Weaker and more common items are there, so that you have the tools to improve your character with until the more rare and better stuff drops for you. These items are a necessity in any game with a power progression and where item rarity equals more power. Earlier Diablo games, Path of Exile, Titan Quest, Sacred, DarkStone all had them. Again, they are only garbage if you concern yourself merely with the absolute endgame (which is GR50-60 in D3). Before that most items in the game are perfectly usable. _____ And to answer your question, for quite a while I used Akanesh last season with my monk. It dropped as ancient and since it's one of the few items in the game that rolls with 5 primary affixes it's kinda unique and the +25% holy damage means it's not a bad item at all. I even used a Ramaladni's on it, since I had a spare.

            • I would agree with you HardRock if it wasn't for the fact that the devs have put so much emphasis on legendaries over all other item classes. The devs have stated multiple times that they want legendaries to be game changing and powerful. They have also said multiple times that RARES are the stepping stones in the item pool until you find a powerful legendary. There is zero need for weak legendary items because what is the point of them if a rare can fill in the void for that brief time. I agree with your Akanesh/Monk example. But what about the rest of the spears HardRock?

    5. W/ T7+, they can finally dump the Gold Find paragon stat. FFS, it is sitting there, taunting everyone, all the time. Awful awful awful. And w/ the new Puzzle Ring insta-Vault, there isn't even a need for the Hoard Gem, either. W/o the super buff, you could still pull up 300M+ w/o even trying.

    6. Reaching a gr 40 should be possible with a frenzy barb : http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#WXRkPY!XgSZ!caYYZZ
      gems : mirinae , simplicity str,gogok
items : frenzy belt, andariel vis, frenzy weapon, asheara gloves, ashera shoulders, hellfire amu, aughild torso (or shi mizu), aughild bracers (or ancient parthan), ele ring, unity, depth diggers, asheara boots
cube : stalghard dec, sash of knives ,rorg

      • It's doable with a lot of builds, especially when you have high level gems, Kanai powers and many Paragon points. To me that Conquest seems the easiest of the bunch.

    7. Big fan of Conquests and curious how long it will take before they fill up. I will certainly try to be the first to do them all again.I like the idea of the 40 without a class set. The 6 gems to 50 is super grindy but once you get one, you know you can get the other 5. Worlds Apart was fun to try in Season 2; think my best solo was 21-22 minutes, so I think it is possible solo, but should be easier with an organized group.

    8. If you got 50M+ from two Barons on T8 then gold has officially gone the way of the healing potion.
