Scheduled Maintenance for Patch 1.0.3

Following the release of the undocumented notes we posted last week, word has finally been released on when we can expect 1.0.3 – tomorrow. Patch notes will be posted as soon as they are available.

We will be performing scheduled maintenance for Diablo III starting tomorrow at 3:00 a.m. PDT in order to deploy patch 1.0.3. We anticipate that maintenance will conclude and that all services will be available by approximately 1:00 p.m. PDT.

Important: Please note that you will not be prompted to download patch 1.0.3 until the patch is live in your home region. If you are logging in from a European or Asian client, you will need to wait for this patch to release in that region before it can be installed. Additionally, if your home region is the Americas, you will be unable to log into Europe or Asia using Global Play after patch 1.0.3 is live until those regions have also patched.

For reference, here are the scheduled maintenance times for each region:

The Americas: 3:00 a.m. PDT (6/19) to 1:00 p.m. PDT (6/19)
Europe: 6:00 p.m. PDT (6/19) to 4:00 a.m. PDT (6/20)
Asia: 1:00 p.m. PDT (6/20) to 11:00 p.m. PDT (6/20)

Please note that these times are subject to change. For time zone assistance, please visit:

    1. Woot! Excellent news for anyone who’s been trying to play without heavy Auction Housing. And probably some good news for those who are 😉

    2. God I hope that those damn bees don’t kill me in like 4 hits after this patch! I’m getting tired of just playing in act 1 inferno…

      • Well if they still do at lest you can now get items that can improve your character so you live though more hits from farming act 1.

    3. Can’t wait. Looking to take more advantage of the black smith in my quest to not completely rely on the AH.

    4. Long maintenance is long. I’d hate to be in Asia, their maintenance window is my playtime window.

      • Far too long, I miss the days when one could just download a patch on the background and keep playing meanwhile…

    5. I was just recently wondering if they’d be able to keep their word (“end of June”) or it’d something ridiculous like another month. I’ve been quite impressed with the celerity of their patches. Props.

Finally i’ll get to cube up all the gems i’ve been saving (couldn’t resist).

      • Yeah. The gem crafting changes are kind of insignificant though since they only apply to gems below Flawless Square, which are already so cheap in the AH.

        • Yeeeah i’m on HC. For perspective, i have a grand total of 1 flawless square (AH’d). 😛 After patch i’ll jump up to a dozen or so.

        • I think the gem changes are great – it makes it worth picking up anything that isn’t flawless square still, and still keeps the high end gems worth something.

    6. I love that they have frequent updates and all, but why does it take 10 hours? Deploy and testing the new patch? It seems like bnet is down every Tuesday for 6 – 8 hours now.

      • They likely have thousands, if not tens of thousands, of servers for each ‘realm’. You know how you used to see 99/100 people in General chat? That’s because each individual server can only support 100 players. That’s the same reason why public games often only get 2-3 people in them – because each server only supports 100 players.

So likely they upgrade batches of servers at once and can’t do them all at once. Therefore they take all of the servers down for the full duration, rather than progressively taking them down as that would frustrate people trying to log in who got errors etc. It’s also a little tricky when you’re upgrading game clients at the same time: old clients can only connect to old servers and new clients can only connect to new servers.

        • Its not like they make the intern run around with a bunch of 5 1/4 inch floppy disks to update each server.
They probably have a bunch of blades which all connect to the same disk arrays or something. 10 hours is ridiculous. Scheduled maintenance from 6 pm to 4 am CET is insulting.

          • “Scheduled maintenance from 6 pm to 4 am CET is insulting.”

It’s 6pm to 4 am PDT. That’s 3 (or 4) am to 1 (or 2) pm CET. (edit: Both on june 20)…) I know one guy that still will be pissed: He’s working nightshift at a gasstation and tonight is his night off, where he’d wanted to play all night long. And that’ll be the third time a patch falls exactly on the one day he got free (, if what he told me was correct…)

      • I suggest ya’ll just play on Europe during maintenance. That goes for Mr. gas station guy too.

    7. great that they are putting patches out “quickly”

but until they get “uniques” fixed and add PVP, color me meh

I can’t really be impressed by “how fast they are working” considering they had SIX YEARS of development time and they sold their customers a pay to play BETA

with a horrid story to boot =/

      • Silly remarks.

        The game is extremely polished.
The servers of Diablo 3 were excellent in their launching period compared to WoW.
Their server structure with 3 GIANT server clusters across 3 continents with 6 million players were a world first.
I never even got one blue screen.
The tuning IS there, but simply put the present day players mentality expects to have everything on a plate now instead of later.

Pvp was not in Wow at launch too.

So add the fact you had no clue how the AH would influence the progression curve and the massive number of players per 1 server/continent behavior Blizzard did EXTREMELY well with a never seen launch with this number of players.

The flak this game got from the Blizzard haters was ridiculous. Afraid as they were that another genre would be dominated by yet another block buster from Irvine. THOUSANDS of games are already on line only. It was a laugh really how D3 on line was assaulted by the extreme haters.

          • He explained how WoW wasnt PVP oriented at first. and that later they added it. Same with Diablo 3 – its not a PVP game.

Funny guy. read before you post.

            • Still he was right that the story is awful. That’s probably the one aspect of the game I hate the most because gameplay can be altered with patches and xpacs but the story…

            • I like the story. The story and the characters are far more fleshed out in D3 than in D2. The story and graphics are the most developed aspect of D3, I only wish they had put 10% of the effort into uniques and set items

            • I personally like the story, but hate the way it was presented. The dialogue is cliche and the voice acting is laughable. Not to mention that Deckard Cain, the most iconic character in the Diablo series, was killed in an in game cut scene by a purple butterfly lady! Killing off Cain is OK, but he at least deserved a cinematic! And a death at the hands of something more epic than a butterfly demon… oh well, too late to change it now. :\

    8. Why on earth do they list PDT as the timezone for europe.
Why can’t they just list it as CET or GMT?

Europeans have NO IDEA what PDT is… >_>
      I sure don’t…

      • I agree, it’s pretty pathetic.

Similarly the little update news box in the client should be able to query your location (or whatever) and display an appropriate message for you based on your time zone, instead of just reporting it as PDT.

Obviously they simply don’t care, even though such a thing wouldn’t take more than a day or two tops for a moderately skilled programmer to implement and test.

      • If you lack the mental capacity to convert the time zone the American forum post gives you, maybe wait for the European post which will come sometime later today. Since EU maintenance is tomorrow they make their blue post mid-day or so.
Or just whine some more cause you’re good at it

          • No, he’s being right. Blizzard is based in California. California is in PDT.

If Blizzard was based in London, it wouldn’t be.

But it’s not. California. PDT. US Forum post. California is in the US. I don’t know how to make it any simpler. Get used to it.

            • ^ ridiculous reply

so, since Blizzard is in the US, all their prices should be listed in US dollars instead of the local currency, even when the game is sold in other countries ?

      • Simple rule to get from Blizzard time zone to CET time zone is to add 9 hours, and to get to GMT time zone add 8 hours.

So European time its 03:00 to 13:00 hours.

      • Agree – sure we can work it out, but it does make absolutely no sense to give the time in PDT in the announcement. Just looks sloppy 🙁

    9. 25 hours of maintenence because Blizzard decided to give me a European client when I downloaded in Australia. Fuck you very much.

    10. is anyone having any errors today since the patch? or is this not the place to post this?
