Blizzard posted to announced officially what has been obvious for a while, and was discussed during the livestream on Thursday. The current PTR testing cycle will extend through the holidays and into 2015, with patch 2.1.2 not going live until early next year.
Just a quick heads up that the patch 2.1.2 PTR will be available throughout the holidays. While we initially planned for a shorter public testing phase, we feel this additional time has improved the quality of the patch, as well as allowed players like you to experiment with (and prepare for) all the upcoming changes. We’re excited to get patch 2.1.2 and Season 2 into your hands and look forward to sharing more information about both updates in the new year.
In the meantime, thank you, as always, for your diligent testing and amazing feedback. We wish the warmest and happiest of holidays, and can’t wait to see you in 2015!
As John Yang mentioned during the live stream, the patch is basically ready to go, but they don’t want to launch a patch with this many changes over the holidays, when most of Blizzard is on vacation. Because if something went wrong that didn’t show up on the PTR, they wouldn’t have sufficient resources to fix it quickly, and days of broken D3 = coal and switches for everyone.
