ptr-blizzcon-elemental-ring1With the +2000% legendary drop rate buff on the PTR, you can find the new items at a ridiculous rate, if you want to get in some testing. (On T6, it’s very unusual for an Elite to not drop at least one legendary, and most chests will pop one also.)

Playing right after the PTR went live I found half a dozen of the new Legendary items, including 3 of the new Blizzcon Elemental Ring, but the new DH set didn’t seem to be findable. Either that or I got incredibly unlucky, since doing several Rifts my DH found 10+ items each from Natalya’s (including the new Nat’s pants), Marauder’s, Shadow, and the Blackthorne’s set, and even a couple of pieces of Invoker’s, plus an Inna’s belt… but not a single one of the pieces from the Unhallowed Essence.

But the PTR was young, and there’s a reason for the “T” in the acronym, so I’m sure they’ll be findable soon enough.

  1. "The Health Potion slot on the action bar is now a bottomless Heath Potion that will heal you for 60% of your maximum Life"

I think there should be another button on the action bar, and when you press it your character instantly turns to max paragon level and you get to choose all the gear for your character, whatever you want. Also, all monsters die instantly and you win Diablo 3.

This seems to be where the devs are going, why don't they just get there already.

    • I sort of agree with you, SteveG. However, there is really no use for health pots at lvl 70 because leg pots are so common. Maybe keep regular pots until you are lvl 70–then get the bottomless pot as a reward? Or just turn off regular pot drops as soon as you equip a leg pot. (I like this idea best.)

There was also an idea to allow the mystic to turn unwanted regular pots into blood shards.

Also: Omnislash! Great FF VII reference. Just make it "hits in all directions AND knocks enemies up."

    • Yes, picking up health potions or throwing them out when you had a legendary potion was super elite, hardcore, pure adrenalin fueled, hack and slash, classic Diablo action. That's why we play the game. Forget loot, killing monsters; all we ever wanted to do was pick up health potions that we couldn't even use anymore.

      • You want to know what is genuine Diablo? Having to scrounge and savour your potions, because you didn't have enough gold to buy any more.

I'm talking Diablo 1 here, before you got to the catacomb levels.

Obviously D3 was never really like that, but IMO the fix would be to make it more like D1, not less.

    • Seriously, the quoted change is one of the best of the bunch. I have no idea what your problem is with it.

  2. Lump crafting. Officially the best patch of all time.

  3. I like what they did to Tal Rasha's and IK. I have doubts they will stay that way though.

  4. Lots of good changes in the patch, it seems. But gl getting on the PTR… Wait times are over an hour right now.

  5. Lol, pretty much every complaint from the podcast has been covered. Awesome. Even surprisingly the health potions, and Monk life save.

  6. "You are probably also confused (amused?) by the fact that your bow, for some reason, shoots Chickens"

Reminds me of the Chicken Gun in Dungeon Siege…loved that game world and music.

  7. Goddamit, my Wiz will be severely weakened on live, since I depend on those +500 int bonus from 2 set Firebird. Whyyyy.

  8. I don't get the 6 piece Raiment bonus. "Dashing Strike now spends 50 Spirit, but refunds a Charge when it does" if it uses spirit what's the point of refunding a charge ?

    • I presume that if you have insufficient resource you can still use Dashing Strike by consuming a charge. As I doubt this set would be used with the standard resource spender attacks this has the added effect of preventing Spirit from becoming useless.

  9. Does the change to Inna's Mantra mean that Monk will suck ?

    • Apparently not. I just saw it still keeps the 4 pieces bonus.

      • Yeah, the patch notes just don't mention some set bonuses if they are unchanged. There were players wondering of Roland's had been gutted also.

    • actually it will make them more formidable if ur running a bell wuko monk 3 piece wuko 5 piece innas (RoRG) may be one of the best yet but thats only if they dont coincide with other gear need to test it out

  10. I just cant get excited about this patch without the addition of autopickup mats & gems. *shrug*

  11. So Fire builds now only really benefit from having 2 Firebirds set as the +500 INT is now not on the item?

    That sucks.

  12. There’s a lot to like in this patch, pending the many balance tweaks that will be inevitably needed after testing.

I do hope the developers haven’t forgotten a few issues that have concerned me for a while. Obviously they can’t implement everything at once but I believe the following need to be addressed for D3 to live up to its full potential:

    1) T6 is way too easy after the massive power creep caused by Ancient Items.

More awesome items and sets are likely to further increase power creep. Power creep is all well and good (like inflation you want it to be low but steady) to keep the game fresh and keep players hunting for new gear, but the challenges need to increase as well. We have one and only one end-game challenge in greater rifts, which become stale when repeatedly run. I would like to either see the difficulty of the existing Torments increased or new Torments added beyond T6 (with the only bonus being higher chance of legendaries being ancient).

    2) Clearing Lesser Rifts beyond the Guardian should provide rewards to make it an efficient option.

Currently, clearing lessers after the guardian is a poor use of time. It would be neat if, for example, there was a massive chest at the very end of the rift that could be opened if you reached it with the rift 300%.

    3) Running Bounties is unrewarding other than for farming RoRG

Upgrading the cache pools of acts 2 through 5 would be a good start. I’d go further and add (new?) useful resources that can be only be farmed via Bounties.

    • Rifts:

      – Multiple bar fills = multiple guardians = more shards
      – Each bar fill = X% XP bonus/MF/Gold

      – For each bag you get, increased chance at legs or multiple legs + bag only legs
      – Each cleared act = % XP bonus/MF/Gold
      – Clear all 5 bounty acts = massive chest like greed's domain

At least you offer possibilities and people will choose what they prefer
