Patch v1.0.5 Coming Later Today

Blizzard tech support has announced that the DiabloWikiPatch 1.0.5 is ready to roll out and will go live on the servers tomorrow.

We will be performing scheduled maintenance for Diablo III starting tomorrow at 1:00 a.m. PDT in order to deploy patch 1.0.5. We anticipate that maintenance will conclude and that all services will be available by approximately 1:00 p.m. PDT.

Important: Please note that you will not be prompted to download patch 1.0.5 until the patch is live in your home region. If you are logging in from a European or Asian client, you will need to wait for this patch to release in that region before it can be installed. Additionally, if your home region is the Americas, you will be unable to log into Europe or Asia using Global Play after patch 1.0.5 is live until those regions have also patched.

Here are the scheduled maintenance times for each region:

  • The Americas: 3:00 a.m. PDT (10/16) to 1:00 p.m. PDT (10/16)
  • Europe: 6:00 p.m. PDT (10/16) to 4:00 a.m. PDT (10/17) which means 2:00am GMT on Wed 17th to 8:00pm GMT Wed 17th
  • Asia: 11:00 a.m. PDT (10/17) to 9:00 p.m. PDT (10/17)
  • Please note that these times are subject to change. For time zone assistance, please visit:

It seems like we’ve been waiting for months, but the PTR went live 3 weeks ago, back on September 22nd. Also, a useful tip from Blizzard tech support about backing up your preferences:

Tomorrow’s patch will cause for your game preferences to be overwritten the first time that the game is launched after patching to version 1.0.5. In order to avoid losing your in-game settings, you’ll want to back up your D3Prefs.txt file before patching. This file can be found in the following locations:

    Windows 7/Vista:

  • Start Menu > Documents > Diablo III folder
  • Windows XP:

  • Start Menu > My Documents > Diablo III folder
  • Mac:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Blizzard/Diablo III folder.
  • ***This bug has been resolved in patch versions after 1.0.5, so backing up this file should only be necessary this time around***

It would have been nice if they could have pointed that out when the PTR went up, since I joined everyone else who tested there in having to set up all my hotkeys again after first logging onto the client. But better now than never, eh? (Yes, it’s safe to expect endless rage threads tomorrow on from people who didn’t see this warning.)

Naturally, the D3 DiabloWikiPTR is shutting down (until the next patch needs testing) as well, once the patch goes live. Click through for a post on that.

Patch 1.0.5 PTR Coming to a Close

We will be shutting down the patch 1.0.5 PTR this evening (10/15) at approximately 11:00 p.m. PDT. At that time, you will no longer be able to log in to the PTR client, and both PTR Feedback and PTR Bug Report forums will be marked read-only.

Please note that any progress you made on the PTR will not transfer over to your Diablo III account.

Thank you to everyone who helped us test this patch. We look forward to releasing patch 1.0.5 to the public tomorrow morning!

    1. Huge rage threads? There’s a WHOPPING 6 skills to key bind… Even if you don’t back up the files (which I couldn’t care less about doing) it’s going to take the entirety of 30 seconds to redo the settings.

      • … Maybe you should check what D3Prefs.txt actually contain ?

Sometimes I miss “thumbs down” button :S

        • Other than video/audio/social settings and key binds, what else would you have to setup again if you didn’t take the time to backup d3prefs? Maybe I am missing something? If not, I sort of agree Bibby. Seems like less time to set this up again than make a rage post about having to do it.

        • I also liked the part where Bibby seems to actually believe something *needs* to be important or impactful to spawn rage threads from the Bliz/D3 haters who infest the forums.

      • It’s no big deal, but it’s still annoying. Also, at one point D3 did not load the preferences for some reason and I ended up on my hardcore character in a new game, being chased by an elite pack wondering why four of my skills weren’t working haha.

    2. If they know it will overwrite the prefs file, can’t the installer back it up during the install the restore it after the patch has installed?

      • That would require someone who is able to hack the Gibson. I only know one man able to do that… Cereal Killer. Don’t get your hopes up though he’s in jail.

      • yeah well, they dont even give us the appropriate central standard times – so why would they bother doing that?

      • Having read how intensive their patching process is (i.e. what we see now is what they were working on 2 weeks ago or w/e), i’m guessing they found out that problem too late to get such a fix into 1.0.5. I.e. they would have had to delay the patch by more time than they felt was worthwhile for the issue.

    3. Argh! So annoying when i see patch is announced tuesday which is actually today in europe, but i know i have to wait a day more 😛

    4. Wow… Considering how big a deal this patch was, what with the PTR and all that, I honestly didn’t expect this to be released for yonks.

    5. so how many people who regularly play public games will not play public games tonight and tomorrow because they want to try monster power and its only available in private games ?

Q: Can I join both the softcore and hardcore ladders?
A: Yes you can join both if you want. As long as you have a level one character of each type and join the ladder before it begins you can take part.

you show the ladder starting 8 hours

the FAQ says we have to have a level one char created BEFORE the ladder starts

the patch goes live in about 6 hours

can you make the ladder start later ?
