The monster density changes have the biggest game impact in this patch, and if you haven’t been testing on the PTR, check out our article discussing the changes.

One big change with this patch will be keyrunning, for anyone who doesn’t already have more DiabloWikiHellfire Rings than they know what to do with. (That includes me, since I don’t have any in Hardcore yet.) The buffs to farming make it so you won’t feel like you’re wasting your time Stacking up in Acts 1 or 2 anymore. Plus, the actual DiabloWikiKeywarden levels are much changed, with huge boosts to the monster density in the DiabloWikiFields of Misery and DiabloWikiDahlgur Oasis making those levels profitable to explore in their own right, and certainly more fun to voyage through than tired old DiabloWikiStonefort.

  1. Old Cain is the true milestone of the Diablo series. Even when dead, he helps us identify the awesome Legendary items we’ll find. As for the patch, I look forward to the increased exp and mf in party.

    • which awesome legendaries? from paragon 24 to my current 75 i havent found a single legendary i could sell for over 3 million.

  2. Looks like gold has been devalued again, unless I am reading this wrong:
“The stack size for gold sales on the auction house has been increased from 1 million to 10 million”

I have been trying to sell 100M gold for about a month and only a few sales for small amounts have gone through. Looks like we are headed towards $0.25 per 10 million (0.025 per million)

    • Agreed. GAH going down in 3… 2… 1…

Imo, US$ 1 for 10 million gold 99% risk free can have the following outcomes:

      – Useful stuff will become 10x more expensive.
      – If the offer increases (multiplayer, more people able to spin2farm on MP10, etc.), then you’ll be able to get a playable char on mid-high MP from any class for $5-$10.

A 50mi gold barb (bidding, not buying out) theoretically can farm white mobs on MP10 for 4 legendaries per hour. It would cost ~$1 a few paragon levels.

I spent on my barb around 10-12mi gold and I got ~50k life, 5.5k armor, 500 AR and over 140k dps with cold soj. With 40mi I could def. make something happen…

Pay to win doesn’t really makes sense to me, but $10 = hundreds of hours of farming is almost asking for people to break the AH to an extent we won’t miss it if they remove it later. Oh wait…

      • There needs to be something to DO w/ this gear other than hunt down more gear. That well is running dry. PvP works for a lot of people, but they also need some crazy new boss fights/encounters/scenarios that get you prestige/bragging rights/vanity gear. What is gear? The ends or the means? People say gear is the means, but that’s BS, and Blizzard knows it. Every change in WoW eventually deconstructs into how it affects the acquisition of gear, and what kind of gear to acquire. Arena junkies will Raid for PvP gear, even if they hate it, and complain about it. Raiders will complain about having to PvP in order to get stuff to raid w/, and complain about it. Hey dip-sticks, STOP DOING THINGS YOU DON’T FIND FUN.

Sometimes I wonder if the loot ruined the genre. It’s a goofy way to extend the life of a short, simple game until there are literally paid careers built around selling loot. And making the whole thing a glorified roulette wheel on top of it is just cruel.

        • The well ran dry long ago. Eventually everyone figures it out even the most diehard fans of the series. Sooner or later it just dawns on you “Wow I have really high magic find now… The items are dropping like crazy… but I really don’t feel like finding anymore of THESE items or playing the auction house.” Then when you start hoping for better items you get let down. Yes I think that’s how it starts.

Unless of course you are still somehow making real money off the game in softcore. I suppose that’s a reason to continue… If you are actually making more money than a min. wage job.

          • Better items do not solve the problem here. You put better items, 2 week+AH=same situation.
            The trick here is imho:
            1) Ironborn: Game mode where you can only wear your own loot aka no AH/Trade.
            2) Itemization: You can “make you own ironborn” not trading neither using AH, but you will face the itemization problem…or should I say…wall. The current itemization is so bad you cannot progress succesfully/rewarding your time aka making it fun and worth farming.

  3. * * A maximum of eight buffs and debuffs will now be displayed on the UI

    1 YEAR…xDDD…Nice patch but 1 YEAR…I’m very happy coz I love this game/”universe”, but I want A LOT more and by yesterday…Capisci?

**Someone must start sending horse head like in The Godfather..xDD

  4. They are tightening up a lot of the crappy issues of the original game, which is great because it (hopefully) means they are nearing the limit of how much they can improve existing mechanics and can instead focus on the actual core issues.

That said, I’m still not playing the game and none of the things in the patch notes make me want to try it out. Guess I’ll continue waiting for the expansion to impress me.

    • Do remember though that a not insubstantial amount of the things meant to impress you when said expansion is unveiled may never make it into the game – if the original release is any indication. Just a kind reminder from the anniversary front line … =)

  5. Hell yeah. Looks pretty nice, and a little more than what I thought was going to be in it. The list of monsters getting their drop rates adjusted looks interesting. Hopefully there are more buffs than nerfs. Gonna have some fun running around some different acts tonight.

  6. Now I know why Avenger and Vampiric Elites were such pushovers. Hopefully Elites with these affixes won’t be gimped now.

  7. Haven’t played in about 5-6 months now, but these changes look pretty good. I might have to re-install Diablo.

  8. As a monk
“A maximum of eight buffs and debuffs will now be displayed on the UI”

    is welcome sight.

  9. I don’t want to be a negative Nancy, but these are cosmetic changes… after one year…

    • Err… no they aren’t. Tons of whats in the notes is not cosmetic changes.. umadbro?

Anyhow, is it me or is the patch not-so-live? I’ve logged into the game, couldnt find the comparisons in the AH then noticed the version level is not 1.0.8 🙂

      • Seems europe was behind.. switched to the americas and then I was forced to d/l the new patch. I even did an entire farm run on europe to be sure it wasn’t live yet there :p

      • yeah, they’re just cosmetic

the fundamentals, the core of the game is still broken

they can dress it up by adding features that should have been in from the beginning, but even that isn’t enough to cover the numerous flaws

        • Please read up on the definition of cosmetic changes.. clearly you don’t know it.
I’ll give you a hint, cosmetical changes in a game are concerning visuals only.
          drop rates => not cosmetic
          xp gains => not cosmetic
          monster density => not cosmetic
ETC ETC ETC => not cosmetic!

  10. so the new drop rates, are they in? less crap and more quality items etc.
cant find anything in the notes?

    • If I recall correctly, they announced the droprates/affix review to coincide with the Legendary re-re-re-revamp in a future patch, which they intricately avoided to number specifically.

      Long story short: 2017.

    • Yeah they aren’t in. I just sold a bunch of dex-only WD fetishes and mighty weapons. Shame, I was having fun with the new densities until I saw that it was still the same crapfest grind. I’ll probably still play a bit with new acts, but I doubt I’ll stick around long.

  11. Were the games too difficult before? What’s with all the increasing of power for all the characters? Or were these just underused abilities?

    • Underused abilities that they were trying to make more competitive with some of the stock builds. The new Firebats is pretty powerful for WDs. I’ve heard tales of 5mil+ crits for well-geared characters.

  12. The thing is they still haven’t made ANY changes to the rest of the game difficulties(that you HAVE to go through) to get to Inferno, still as damn boring as ever. Would have been good if they’d of done something for the difficulty levels and not just focused on Inferno.

  13. Tip: buy emeralds ASAP and get rid of the gold. Check NA GAH and tank me later. US$ 1 = 10 mi gold.

Radiant Square Emerald = 158mi gold
Flawless Square Emeral = 80k gold.

By folks, I’m hunting emeralds to sell them for gold to craft emeralds…

(Also, people are buying gold with money and getting everything from GAH, since 2bi = 10-15 Radiant Square Emeralds…)

  14. So after all this hysteria with gold duping … Has anybody tried which new areas give most xp i.e. which are similar to realm of shadow when they first put it on the PTR?

I am tring Weeping Hollow and the pit there which Flux wrote was swarming before but with the pit it wasn’t much satisfactory. ATM I am trying realm of shadow and the other two – Storm Halls and Unknown Depths but they feel a bit nerfed as far as number of mosnters is concerned.

So where do I find lots of them coming in great numbers now?
