Next World of Warcraft Expansion: Gamescom 2015

Do not want....

Do not want….

Blizzard has ended the fan speculation and trademark mining by confirming that they will be debuting their next World of Warcraft expansion next week at the Gamescom show in Germany. Next World of Warcraft Expansion: Gamescom 2015:

New World of Warcraft Expansion Unveiling at gamescom 2015 – Live Stream August 6

Join us Thursday, August 6 at 9 a.m. PDT for a special World of Warcraft event streamed live from gamescom 2015 in Cologne, Germany—where we’ll be unveiling the next chapter of the World of Warcraft saga. . . .

Tune in again Sunday, August 9 at 8:00 a.m. PDT for a World of Warcraft developer chat before the show ends, and find out more about what’s in store.

Stay tuned to our dedicated gamescom page for further details on the live stream. Those who are able to join us in person at gamescom can visit us at the Blizzard booth in hall 7.1. We hope to see you there!

This makes a D3X2 announcement also at Gamescom seem extremely unlikely. In the past D3 games have generally been announced at Gamescom while WoW tended to dominate the Blizzcon convention… let’s hope that sequence is just reversed this time? Blizzcon 2015 goes off in early November.

  1. Yeah, fuck you blizzard.

  2. Blizzcon is ours ladies and gents!I'm happy that they can concentrate on patch 2.3 in the meantime and not allow the great things it is bringing to be overshadowed by something even bigger down the line. 🙂

  3. Yeah, WoW down one notch, and D3 up one notch for an exclusive BlizzCon 2015 premiere. ^^

  4. no dreams shattered, only hope lost.

  5. By the way, it's surprising that Blizzard actually killed the gamescom surprise by posting the WOWX6 teaser today. We did stir up something with all our recent speculations, didn't we? ^^

  6. Well that's the fine shred of hope dashed. 🙁

  7. They're gonna announce World of Warcraft (the game) at Gamescon, and Warcraft (the movie) at Blizzcon. Maybe they'll have the 2.4/S5 demo at Blizzcon, but probably not. Need more floor space for Heroes and Hearthstone and the Overwatch. Aka, freemium shovelware w/ above average polish.

  8. Warcraft movie, SC2:LotV, Overwatch big announcements at BlizzCon.. HS, HotS and Wow patch preview too.. I’ve got no hopes of big D3 presence at BC, let alone an XPac confirmation.

They’re probably waiting to see how the micro-transactions go in the Chinese region first, they might not do an XPac and just go with free content patches and micro-transactions business model.

  9. Question: If they reveal WOWX6 on stage on Thursday 6 at 17:45 CET, what do they announce on Wednesday 5 at 12:00 CET during the gamescom press conference?Source: http://blizzgc.com/#schedule

  10. Yeah, I thought this would happen. I'm not too optimistic about D3 at Blizzcon, either.

  11. At least Grimiku was straightforward in his response.

    • True:
      @Grimiku:
@TheAngzt @CM_Nevalistis @Tyvalir D3 won’t have a presence at gamescom, and none of us are going. WoW is gonna rock, though!

  12. Now this makes me wonder if the expansion was killed in favor of Diablo 4.Look at Kanai's Cube. That's a ballin' feature! The mystic's reroll ability was a game changer and Kanai's cube is way better. If they're giving us the cube for free, what are they saving for Act 6? Kulle is basically a 4th artisan. The Ruins of Secheron and the Cesspools were probably legitimate unused content. But if we see like, Xiansai or Skovos in season 5, I'm right.

    • I think we get an answer to that question at BlizzCon.

    • i was wondering this as well. the cube is something that would help sell the xpac so if we get that for free what are they saving? would we really get a diablo 4 this soon though? i cant imagine we would though i would not be against it

  13. Everyones foaming at the mouth for expansion news, its been hinted at for so fucking long now and it boils down to. We wont be there, but WOW will rock. drrr. FUCK YOU noones here for WoW, and noone cares about it 300th expansion either. What a goddamn tease. If that post was to troll diablo fans, it worked.

  15. Yeah… shit…shit happens

But if we consider the following:
    Wow – 6 000 000 players x 13 EUR x 12 monts = 936 000 000 EUR/year
    Diablo – 1 000 000 players (max) x 120 EUR (2 games)per 3 years = 40 000 000 EUR/year

This is the reason why Wow has 6X, a we will have a second one… probably someday…

However we received lots of things FOR FREE. Remember that you have paid for a game that its totally different now, and you received most of these things FOR FREE and the Wow brothers are spending resources 🙂

    • If you're comparing numbers, you should take a look at the boxes actually sold for D3, and not the monthly average (max) number of players. You could count in revenues made due to the auction house, as long as it was live, but I dunno if there's any data available on that…

  16. Who cares about the expansion, anyway? Is anyone really looking forward to spending more money on another garbage act with a lame story? The patch model of D3 is WAY better, and totally free. The cube is more impactful than The lame duck Mystic. Blizz pretty much botched the D3 campaign badly. They should save time & money and just patch in a new class. I'd bet the majority of players would rather have 2 new classes than a new act!

    • I would much rather like a major skill system overhaul.

      • Skill & item overhaul, of course, but we surely know by now Blizzard isn't going to change any core mechanics during D3s run.

        • They could always build up a decent player driven character development system on top of the existent rune distinctions base. They'd just have to take care shaping it as a counter balance to the item system (…, incidently gaining more leeway in item design in the process).
