Undocumented Patch 10 details

Spoiler WarningUPDATE: This is all the easy new stuff, I’m now going to be looking at the deeper stuff for the things that have changed not simply what is new.

This page will be updated as I find out new stuff worthy of telling you about from Patch 10. I’ll spoiler anything which might be spoilery and if you consider me to be spoiling you then PM me on the forum and I’ll spoiler it!

Anyway here we go:
(Newest thing will be on the front, older stuff after the fold)

Core Stats:
As we know Blizzard recently dropped precision, defence and attack… or did they?

In an effort to stop them re-coding all of D3 they’ve just renamed the same things they had before as such:
Precision = Dexterity
Defence = Intelligence
Vitality = Vitality
Attack = Strength

When you think about it, this makes a lot of sense and although their roles have been tweeked, essentially we have the same stats with a new coating.

Animation:
New animations for Resource Globes tailored to each class. [Resources like Arcane and Discipline]
(The code call these Globes but I guess we talk about them as orbs)

Encounter:
Minor Spoiler for anyone who has avoided all videos about the game, not a spoiler if you’ve seen much of the beta footage or play in the beta:

Spoiler:
It seems Blizzard has finally gotten around to scripting what happens to the Mayor’s cart… I wonder if it’s in the current beta or still just out of reach! If anyone knows the answer, let us know!

Areas:
Minor Spoiler: A new area which is NOT accessible in the beta, just a name, don’t click if you don’t want to see it!

Spoiler:
A new area has been added for Act IV: “Diablo Arena Phase 3”

  1. is the text of the different chats different colors?
    example:
/p looking for wizard for party
    is blue
/w I got a good drop for a barb, do you want it ?
    is green

is that all the commands ?
what about /? or /h for chat help
and what exactly does /g tell you

    • /g Probably talks to everyone in your game, while /p talks to everyone in your party.

      • I thought joining a game meant automatically joining a party with everyone else in the game

can you be in someone’s game and not be in a party ?
even if you’re fighting right next to them ?
so does that mean if you join a game that already has 3 players in it that you’re not in a party with those players until they invite you ?

if that’s the case, then is there a
        /i Bowzer
that invites Bowzer to a party ?

  2. I hope im not the only one thinking this but.. What?!

  3. Hi Dorjan ?! And thank you for the post.

  4. Why would any class want to have a stat other than their core stat? For example if I’m a Wizard and I get an item with INT+DEX on it, all the dex is pretty much useless. I want pure +INT if I’m a Wizard, pure +STR as a Barbarian etc. Seems kinda silly this way.

    • Well I wanted to write an artcile comparing it to DotA. The stat system is pretty much what they have. You’re right that it will be rarer for any class to have anything other than their main stat, but that’s the point!

It will make the items more valuable to each class depending on the stat which in turn… think about it…

..Makes people trade more on the RMAH 😉

But also it depends on the skill build. I went for melee DH in the first few beta patches because I felt the damage output of his range abilities sucked ass. In the end I had an amazingly fun character who needed high defence and health, he was too powerful for anything in the game to hurt 😆

Not sure how I could do that with the current version but I’ve not really had the chance to play with it ^,^

    • What if I am a melee wizard? Then I probably want to have my damage stat (+INT), more defense/armor (+STR) and as every class more health (+VIT).

So to me it looks like every class wants to have at least 2 stats: damage and health. Depending on your build a third stat might be needed.

    • this is a very one-way or simplified thinking about a game that allows hundred of builds…, just sayin..

    • Why is that silly? There will always be one stat that’s better than the others; the interesting things happen when you have to compare the secondary/tertiary stats, and in trying to find an item with a great combination.

The system isn’t much different than it was before. They’re just replacing what used to be “Attack” with a few different stats, each of which do something in addition to what Attack used to do, and keeping the multitude of other item mods they had before.

And yes, you will find items that have useless combinations of mods. Welcome to the Diablo series!

  5. Thank you for the spoiler alerts. This way (especially with the helpful spoiler-free explanation of what is hidden inside the spoiler) I can choose for myself if I want to read the spoiler or not. I chose to read the first one, but not the second spoiler. Thanks again.

    • You’re welcome!

I know it’s very hard with spoilers, and what some people consider spoilers and what others don’t. So I’m trying to keep a balance 😀

  6. If the Legendary/Hell/Inferno whatever they are called items are anything like they were in D2, one max stat characters will be very limited and will fail hard in PvP and hardcore. If you dont believe me go play some Diablo 2, but better yet stick to your papercutter DOTA builds and be prepared to fail hard in PvP. K? Thx, Bye!

    • no no no, I said I was going to write up that that’s what it seems like.

Often you won’t do that but it seems like the clear thing to do.

Example Crystal maidan will not be stacking Int even though it’s her primary mod 😉

  7. shiit names, shiit lore, shiit wow graphics, shiit everything

    not buying.

  8. Then why post about it ? On the other hand nice article the spoiler buttons are great

  9. And… what’s the point of this change?

    • It makes characters like Barb + Wiz both dont fight over + attack gear rather go for +str or +int, …. gets rid of lots of overlapping gear for different classes!!!! stat change is AWESOME if you don’t see it.. go play d2 or sumthing it’s not much different. Much better than the previous system. 😆

  10. Wow dudes…this kind of info is totally out of my enjoyable reach!
What im interested about the changes? Gimme the new Resource Animations! 😀

    • Well, your honour, it makes the game more accessible, fun and generally streamlined. Allegedly.

      • Im not enjoying that kind of information in raw, not that im not going to enjoy the effect ingame!
Never the less thanks for your time dear servant!

        Your effort will be remembered!

  11. Yeah resource animation plx ^^

  12. Who is this Dorjan person and why shouldn’t we beat them up right now? 😯

    I mean….. what?   >.>   <.<

So wait… They're bringing back droppable mana globes? But for everyone? Really? Or do you mean the resource orb on the right side of the ui?

    • i am 100% sure what he is reffering too was the Resource Globes (he means orb). ************The resource pool for each class has a new animation. Supposedly, but i do not know first hand as I am not in the beta 8)
      No mana globes will drop.

  13. Reinvention of the wheel 6.0

  14. First impressions from Beta so far- Wizard lvl 9

-a lot more baddies as single player…. I seem to level much quicker with all the extra experience from kills.  In the previous patch I can do 2 quick run throughs to reach lvl 13 but Im barely in the 3rd level in the cathedral of my first run through and Im already lvl 9
-Seems like you run into a lot more elites
-Accomplishments are cool, but only hit about 4 so far
-No scolls of companion as of yet which is odd
-The new crafting system is a lot better in my opinion, generally only one mat to deal with (blue) but you go through gold fast.  I picked up the whites and sold them anyways just to have enough gold to craft new items
-Gold is more important this time around.  Before I would have thousands sitting there, but now I need to break every barrel to keep up with leveling crafting/buying more shared stash space. -Edit, gold will come, I stopped picking up grays (only sold for like 1 gold) whites sold for like 5-20 gold
-Got my first yellow from a random barrel in the crypts.  Previously they only came from elites.  I dont mind the casting time to ID it, makes the game flow better. ID and go.
-Town portal makes the game feel more diablo-ish, I welcome it. You get it where you originally got the stone of recall.
-When you complete a quest there’s a new portrait which makes the completed quest give more satisfaction somehow
-Wizard’s skills got rearranged a bit, I use wave of force more often than disintegrate now (so satisfying to run in the middle and wipe everyone clean)  Electrocute is a lvl 13 spell now (dont remember what it was before) but it was my bread and butter during last patch.  Sucks that I have to wait til later to use it.

Overall, I like how it has become a little bit harder (well, for a wizard, anyways). I had to use potions more often (edit-pots early on, lots of the crafted items stack vitality so it doesnt even seem like you get hurt at all as a ranged character) and I dont feel like I just mow through things. Probably because I cant stack +attack anymore.

  15. What a ridiculous clusterfuck is this? 340 affixes that all pretty much do the same shit? Jeezes christ Blizzard sucks at design.

  16. Alright, I only had 40 minutes to play (chose to test with Monk until lvl 5 then switch to Barb for a level), but here are some of the changes I noticed that haven’t been mentioned. It’s possible a couple were in before and I just missed them:
    – Three times I got ERROR_300008 when trying to start a game out of the six times connecting.
    – New Graphics option: Low FX – reduces amount of Particle Effects.
    – New greyed out button for Hardcore Hero upon completion of Normal difficulty.
    – Current map area and local time in upper right of screen as you play.
    – I had never seen the “Cave Under the Well” or the “Mass Grave” areas before, very beautiful.
    – New Quest Complete and Achievement graphics.
    – Misc merchant is gone from New Tristram – now only the Innkeeper buys goods in the beginning.
    – I HATE that the new skill tooltips don’t show you any detailed information about the skill. No % Weapon damage, no damage over time numbers. Just “Brutally strike a single enemy” or “A deadly roundhouse kick good against small groups of enemies”.
    – I LOVE the new resource globe graphics. The Rage is a boiling bloody-golden mass. Looks really nice.
    – I do like the removal of the Nephalem altar and the 30 second cool-down when replacing a skill.
Ok, that’s it for now. More tomorrow…
    -Aurus

  17. You guys should really format the RSS feed so that the spoiler button ‘feature’ is intact…accidentally spoiled some stuff for myself that I didn’t want to. :T

  18. I know I’m not the first and won’t be the last to say this but I really don’t like the new attributes system. The arguments for basically say that it will increase build diversity by forcing different classes to seek different attribute bonuses to stack on their character. Ok, but isn’t this mechanism going to force players to stack their classes primary attribute just to stay competative? This is just going to lead to more cookie cutter builds in terms of attribute bonus hunting for the sake of percieved item diversity amongst builds. I say percieved because we have to take into account the reduction of diversity within a class vs intended increase across all classes. Also, with the particular combinations of damage bonuses to attributes we have in this new system we are going to see major balancing issues between the classes. Before, (after the improvements to the demon hunter) all of the classes seemed equally as capable. The main things people really care about is 1. Kill speed and 2. Survivability. In that order. In this new system I forsee barbarians and monks outnumbering the other classes in exactly the way pala(hammer)dins and (meteorb) sorceresses did in D2 for exactly those reasons. Blizzard has been saying all along that they wanted to make as large an amount of possible builds viable and I think the balance of the attributes system in the last iteration achieved this across all classes. It presented a blank canvass with the promise of vast possibility without pushing each class to a particular build. This new system does exactly the opposite. What I think this issue is really about is that Blizzard are having trouble with the balance of making choices in the game meaningful through the use of a relativistic system (some choices are better than others) without all choices being refined to the same concusion (build/s.) My recommendation would be for Blizzard to revert back to the old attribute system and spend their time on finding more creative solutions to their itemisation issues.

  19. Really? Empty lines dont show up in the comments? Wall of text is so crass. Enforced wall of text just makes me cry.

  20. There is a new encounter in the cathedral… new to me at least, and I played Versions 8 and 9 a LOT of times. Dude with a quest marker that you can have a brief conversation with and then kill 🙂

  21. I’m happy to see cruel is still a prefix.  Much nastolgia for me as I vividly remember my lvl 72 hardcore barbarian being mauled to death during the loading screen by hydras summoned from a sorcerer hostiling from the safety of town.  *weeps*

I’ll never forget his cruel thundermaul.
