Jay Wilson on Story and Complexity


CVG has posted a short piece with some nice quotes from Jay Wilson. I assume this is left over from Gamescom, but they don’t detail the provenance of their communication, so perhaps it’s newer? Here’s a couple of quotes, anyway. Click the link to read the whole thing.

Blizzard has told CVG that Diablo 3 won’t be “more complex” than its predecessor – despite new ideas ensuring a “richer” features and an improved combat system. Lead designer Jay Wilson revealed that Diablo 3 would not only contain improved fighting – but also include a “deeper item range”.

…He added: “One of the big things is to create a game that really builds on the depth of the previous Diablo games for a deeper, richer game. We want to create a deeper combat experience, a deeper item range, without making the game more complex.”

…He commented: “Story is very important to us and so we focused a lot on enhancing the story elements in Diablo 3 – and there’s a lot more to the story. There’s a lot more involvement in the story as you play the game, the world is kind of alive with the story as you move through it. that’s the best way to describe it.”
