Yesterday, Diablo’s Facebook page informed us about an upcoming program on G4TV featuring behind the scenes Blizzard and Diablo stuff.
They posted that as the first showing was underway. You can catch the rebroadcast tonight, but thanks to the magic of the internet you don’t even need to try to figure out where in the 740 range your cable system might have slotted G4TV, since they’ve already posted the Diablo III feature on their site. It’s not much; just a video interview with Jason Bender talking about the Arena, but it’s worth a view. The video is embedded below, or you can view it on the G4TV page, where added it into their hands-on Arena report from Blizzcon last year. (You can safely disregard that April 1, 2011 release date atop the page.)
If there was anything newer than Jason’s stubble in that video, I didn’t see it. The footage was all from the gameplay movie they released at Blizzcon 2010, and Jason just restated all the basic Arena info that’s already explained to death on the wiki page. I had my hopes up for a second there, when Jason answered the question about “can you use your own characters in the arena?” I hoped he was about to announce an option to use pre-made Arena characters, like the ones in the Blizzcon demo.
I think that would be a cool option in the final game. Obviously we’ll all want to duel with our own characters most of the time, but you know that people who are full time PvPers will soon have characters so optimized for dueling, with all of their skills, traits, and equipment customized for PvP, that no regular PvM char will be able to compete. Hence it would be fun to have an option to use pre-made characters, to put everyone on an even equipment footing, and let the match be decided by player skill.
