It was seven years ago today that Diablo 3 was finally released and what a wild ride that day was for fans who had been waiting so long for the return of the franchise.

The Diablo 3 launch was, to put it mildly, a bit of a disaster with account hacking issues,  error 37 issues, and the new RMAH to name a few of the problems. It was not going to be an easy ride for Blizzard because it soon became apparent there were all kinds of game design problems that could not be easily fixed. The RMAH would also eventually close in 2013.

Josh Mosquiera would then step in take over from Jay Wilson to effectively salvage the game. If you missed it, it’s worth reading the post-mortem we did with Jay Wilson in which he covers many of the issues the game had at launch.

I think we can all agree Blizzard managed to turn the game around even if it is by no means perfect and it’s certainly no Diablo 2. Still, with another game in the works, we can only hope that in a few years time we’ll be celebrating the launch of Diablo IV. For now though, happy birthday Diablo 3.
