Double Treasure Goblin Buff All Next Week

buff-goblin-feb-2015Blizzard is celebrating the launch of Patch 2.1.2 with a community buff. This one differs between PC and console. Double Treasure Goblin Buff Coming Soon:

To celebrate the arrival of this content update on PC and console, all treasure-hungry nephalem who log in to Diablo III* starting this weekend will enjoy a special treat. Pick your platform and receive one of the following temporary in-game boosts:

PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One:

Get ready to manage some mischief! Adventurers who encounter Treasure Goblins will notice they’ve brought friends to the party—for a limited time, all goblins will spawn in pairs.

PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360:

Let there be loot! For a limited time, all players who log in to defend Sanctuary will receive a +100% bonus to their chance to find Legendary and Set items. Note that this bonus stacks multiplicatively with other existing bonuses, including those provided by items, shrines, Torment difficulty levels, and Nephalem Rifts.

This double Treasure Goblin and bonus Legendary Find period will begin for both PC and console players in the Americas region on Friday, January 16 at 12:00 a.m. PST and will end on Friday, January 23 at 11:59 p.m. PST.**

Just like this, only doubled.

And then they doubled it…

For PC players, the buff applies to all types of DiabloWikiGoblins, so you can look forward to double shards, double gems, and double materials from the three new types. The most valuable of the new goblins is the rares, the Malevolent Tormenter. Those guys are as uncommon as they are precious, as they drop higher quality gear than normal Goblins, usually fountaining out at least one Legendary. Thus two of them at once is a valuable prize; like a drunken threesome with identical twin models, and without the uncomfortable hungover conversation in the morning.

Also, if anyone is hunting for DiabloWikiGreed’s Domain, each goblin has the normal chance to spawn the golden portal, so your odds for that Au passage are doubled as well.

  1. Awesome news. I've found the Malevolent Tormenter once already, he popped three legs. Actually kept two of them (upgrades for backup pieces).

I wonder if this applies to goblin packs? I encountered one of those in a regular rift last night, crazy shiny when I was finally done with that. One change I love is that you now can see what goblins you managed to kill and what ones got away.

    • Zappa, do you mean that is says in the chat window also for the goblins that got away?
I ran into a gob pack yesterday and was not sure if i got them all. I counted 18 kills in the chat afterwards, but there was nothing about *not* killing any

      • When a goblin escapes through the portal there's a notification in the text line, just like when you kill one.

"Infernal Hoarder has escaped" or something like that.

  2. "Thus two of them at once is a valuable prize; like a drunken threesome with identical twin models, and without the uncomfortable hungover conversation in the morning."

    I giggled 🙂

  3. I've also hit the Malevolent Tormenter 3 times now and each time he has dropped multiple legendaries – I believe 3 each time.

I can't complain about the buff, as I am looking forward to it, but it seems odd to me that different platforms would have different buffs. I play PC and I'd rather have the 100% legendary increase.

    • I know what you mean, but apparently this is to bring PS3 and Xbox360 up to the level of PC, PS4 and Xbone which all received the permanent 100% Legendary buff some time ago. So it's fair enough.

  4. Hit goblin packs in 3 separate T6 rifts last night and one solo Malevolent Tormenter. Dunno what came from who in the packs but the solo one dropped 3 legs for me and my clanmate said he got 5.

  5. You have to feel that Blizzard is at least trying to keep the game alive. Seems there's some kind of special event buff every month these days. Unfortunately event buffs aren't the kind of meaningful changes most of the leavers & haters are hoping for.

    • I've loved D3 and got a lot more out of Season 1 than I imagined I would. Yet I'm beginning to really tire of Blizzard's approach. They just don't listen to us at all. The community has screamed about things like item design and they just say they disagree or don't say anything at all or ignore us entirely. (aka the original legendaries sucking so much)

The latest fiasco is them releasing this patch and not ending season 1 at the same time. I don't care about leaderboards but there were good arguments from those that really do to freeze the leaderboards or simply end season one immediately. Not only did they not listen, but they didn't even bother to reply to those threads. What the hell is the point of having CM's if they don't actually interact with the community about meaningful things?

This game could be SOOO much more than it is. It has an amazing engine and as much as I've enjoyed it and as many hours as I've put in it, it just makes me more passionate for them to listen to us. It's not that I'm a hater at all and I think a bunch of those in the forums are the same way.

A community buff just isn't trying very hard at all.

I'm not playing PoE as D3 combat is far superior. But I'm incredibly jealous of the commitment GGG put into releasing updates for that game. Even small ones. Every 2 weeks they get something new and every couple months or so they get something significant in terms of content. Just look at their patch notes forum. ( It will make you weep.

And that is from a company with a MUCH smaller team and FAR fewer resources than Blizzard.

  6. Gotta say I love the new changes to the goblins…whenever I hear the cackling of a goblin encounter pending I get excited wondering if it's just one or a whole mess of them. So far I've encountered two goblin mega-packs (they seem to be more numerous now then in the past) and they're total chaos and total fun. Getting a double mega-pack is going to be totally crazy but awesome as well.

  7. And we still don’t get enough of the CORRECT materials from drops.

1 Goblin Packs with DOZENS of Goblins barely let me craft t w o bracers.

Yellow and Legendary craft materials as well as Death Breaths are worthless garbage.
Same with gems, they are useless except the one type to roll jewelry. There is no point to even bother to collect them.

The packs are a huge disappointment. >95% of all materials are worthless so they just fuck up the screen and force you to click all of them to find the other 5%.

    • Different characters will find different goblins of use. Gem and Mats goblins are irrelevant late in the season for busy players who have a stash tab full of extra stuff. But they're awesome early in the season, or for players who don't have much surplus.

On the PTR early in S2 I got a whole pack of the materials/plans goblins, and it was the most glorious goblin thing I've ever seen; 60+ leg plans at once and many hundreds of other mats I needed. Same pack of goblins a month later was irrelevant, since it was just a bunch of blue/yellow mats I already had a million of.

The new types of goblins aren't meant to be ideal for everyone; just to provide some variety and work better for some players than others.

  8. all others I looked forward, chasing the various goblins, and can see that many are positive about this event. What I do not understand is that I have not seen a single goblin at all despite the fact that I played for about 7 hours, first normal rifts and afterwards bounty hunts ????? Even in the Halls of Agony lvl 2 where there is always guarantee of a goblin. summarize it simply is not especially when I read about all those who have found tons of goblins. For good measure, I chatted with friends from Europe who experienced exactly the same and we played together for an hour and still NO godblins. Could be a coincidence but find it a little strange.

  9. Blizz says this was a content patch. I wonder what content are they referring to?
