Diablo III Weekly Wallpaper #66: Skovos

After sticking to the desert the last two weeks, this week’s new Diablo 3 Wallpaper from DiabloWikiHolyKnight3000 goes tropical and visits the lovely Amazon homeland isle of DiabloWikiSkovos, as envisioned by Blizzard artist DiabloWikiPeter Lee.

Players will not be able to explore this location in Diablo 3, at least not in the initial retail release, but at least we can enjoy the concept art. Right on your own desktop, if you click through to get this image in an appropriately-large size. Here’s a quote from HK’s caption, to give you some insight into his creative process.

A remake of the old Skovos Islands wallpaper I made using the current style of the locations series. I did a few variations of the blue where the world map was but they were too blinding bright, and so i went with a darker tone to match the deep waters around the island.

Unfortunately the runes stand out but hopefully not so much as to detract from the image. On a side note I am starting work on revamping the old runes. Been doing some runework for my wow guild’s site.

  1. MW2 sold such a huge amount because of the strong rabid fanbase MW1 built, only a few years prior to MW2’s release.

For D3, most of the current generation players (a huge chunk of MW2’s 4.7m) don’t even know about D2.  If even WoW only had 2.8mil, it is highly unlikely that D3 will go past 3mill.

P.S. Technically Koreans don’t buy a lot of games themselves. They go to internet cafe.  The Korean retail sales figure will be a tad low and not representative of the game’s success.
