Diablo III: Darkness Falls, Heroes Rise

More updates to the site continue to roll in as the beginning of the promotional material makes its appearance. With the new short story we recently reported, there is new promotional content that will reward viewers with the ability to unlock special sigils for their banners – one for each class. As we count down the weeks to the release of Diablo III, there will be more updates unlocked.

The process to unlock the first sigil is easy. Just click the Mark of Valor link and it will direct you to a page with a bold “create banner” button. Just create any banner you wish, and you will unlock the special class sigil in-game after entering your battle.net credentials.

Each week a new class journeys to the town of New Tristram to join the Gathering of Heroes. Adorn a banner fit for a brave adventurer and claim the exclusive in-game sigil for this week’s hero.

Like and share the content on this site, join the Mark of Valor contest, or submit your original interpretations of the Diablo universe in the Art contest to uncover the dark secrets locked away below.

For more information, seek out our FAQ.
The end of days draws near, and countless mysteries bar your path. Take courage, hero, and shed light upon the demonic secrets within.

We’ll be seeing more promos in the weeks to come as the hype machine gets kicked into overdrive. I’m curious about when we’ll start seeing commercials for it on television.

Click through to read the other bits of information you’ll find including all the content updates planned.

Demon Hunter Introduction

The demon hunters. Vengeful harbingers of righteous doom who bring swift judgment and death to the hellish creatures daring enough to trespass on the mortal lands of Sanctuary. Skilled archers, assassins, and trackers, demon hunters are perfectly honed instruments set to scour demons from the world. The fact that every last one of them has a deep and personal motivation to do so only sharpens their deadly purpose.

This excerpt was accompanied by the recent video released as well.

Very little is known about the secret society of demon hunters. While not native to the region, this elusive cadre of warriors has chosen to root its forces amidst the ruins of a forgotten city located in the Dreadlands. Apprentice

s come from every corner of the land, all bearing the scars of demonic attack—all seething with hatred for the hellspawn that left their twisted mark. The recruiters know that only those with a personal vendetta will be driven enough to complete the harsh training required to stand as a true demon hunter.

Neophyte hunters are trained merely by surviving in the demon-infested wastes of the Dreadlands. Practiced in the subtle arts of knife and crossbow, the demon hunter learns how to dodge monstrous blows with acrobatic skill—and return them with sharp-bladed fury. These delicate weapons require masterful finesse, but they allow demon hunters to bring death to their targets with surgical precision.

This precision requires a level of mental focus that is unique to the demon hunters. In combating their monstrous quarry, they are taught to bridle their hatred and channel it to become a superhuman weapon of willpower and discipline. It is the only way to counter the vicious psychic attacks that demons make when they prey on mortals’ weaknesses and fears. A powerful demon hunter can turn such attacks around on their unsuspecting enemies, hitting them where they have no defense.

Every demon hunter has a network of eyes and ears, a dependable crew of watchers, spies, and informers stationed across the length and breadth of Sanctuary. Once a demonic incursion is spotted, the demon hunters arrive with surprisingly swift and lethal intent. The recent news from New Tristram of a fallen star and walking dead has caught the attention of these shadowy warriors. They have sent the best from amongst their ranks to deal with the situation. And demon hunters deal in only one form of currency.

  1. O_O

    /rendered speechless

  2. This is available in the beta… or?

  3. Not working in Chrome even with adblock off, hmm.

  4. Well, it finally begun. The Blizzard Overlords released the hounds of marketing.

  5. I don’t get it – what’s a sigil? I created a banner, entered what I thought were my Bnet details, I get a “You’ve successfully redeemed your sigil” message, but apart from that, nothing seems to happen. What’s my nickname? No matter what I enter into that box I get the same “success” message.

In fact I can put any email address in too and I still get “success”. Any email whatsoever, doesn’t have to be legit. What the hell is this?

    • You know, I’m not entirely sure. I believe that as long as the e-mail attached to your battle.net account will be flagged if you enter it correctly.

I think it would have made a lot more sense had they dispatched a confirmation e-mail, though.

      • I’m pretty sure the FAQ says they will send a confirmation email as well. I think the sigil is the picture/emblem thing on the banner.

  6. The FAQ claims we should receive a confirmation email.
Didn’t get one either though, maybe it is just slow, or it really doesn’t work.

  7. I think the unchangeable (Crossbow-looking) part is the sigil, and doing this unlocks it for further use during play.

  8. Participated, but didn’t get an email either. I’m gonna try again later until I get one.

But then again, aside from being unobtainable, there’s nothing really that special about them. Getting them is ridiculously easy, so I am assuming that majority of players will have them, making the whole thing kind of pointless.

I’d rather show-off and put my hard-earned achievement rewards on my banner, like completing Inferno Hardcore mode.

    • Generally I agree with you, but for vanity purposes, 10 years down the road or whatever, it might be nice to be able to say “Hey, I’ve been playing this game since release – check out my pre-release promotional event sigil!”

I’m also wondering if there might not be a way to display more than one sigil at a time on your banner in the final game, so as to better display multiple achievements at once. Kinda doubt it though.

  9. This is an awesome promotional campaign – far cooler than SC2’s, I think :P.

I forgot what was unlocked at the end of SC2’s one (think it was a trailer), but…..this final unlockable at the end of their 100% progress meter had better be as epic as they claim :P.  Actually, if it was just a new trailer with sweet new ingame footage, I’d be happy XD.

    Imma makin’ mah banner! 😀

  10. Hmm, I’d feel a lot better if I got that email of which they speak.

  11. The facebook share/ like functions weren’t working for me. Made a banner and ‘successfully submitted’ No idea.

  13. Well, I’m quessing millions of people are uploading their banners or sigils or whatever we create and “win”. I did not get the confirmation e-mail either, but I’ll give it a day or two. The promotion of DH still going on for another 4 days, so there is plenty of time. The “nick” part confused me also, maybe it’s just something that functions as a “folder” for your other images created. Like in the art contest. But frankly, I have no valid information about that:)

    • I think it said “email when accepted”. I’m guessing the people that will be checking the images before accepting them are sleeping.

      • Direct quote:
When completing Mark of Valor for that week’s featured class you’ll be asked for your Battle.net email address. After entering it, you’ll receive a confirmation email letting you know that your entry was accepted.

  14. The site is a buggy piece of shit both on Chrome and Firefox I’m getting errors. Specifically when trying to enter the contest or click on the Demon Hunter…. AAAAARGH.

  15. I’m guessing not working by design or more likely server power shortage.

  16. Seems you are forced to have facebook to participiate in this?

  17. Created a banner but no confirmation email…guess I have to try until it works :/

  18. This page has got to be the flakiest I’ve ever seen. Tried both in FF and IE and I always end up with a 404 or PHP error page…

  19. Same here… not on Safari, Chrome for mac… need to many refresh, to load, and even that load with errors… damn

  20. This artwork of the Demon Hunter is totally awesome, does somebody know, if there exist a full version of it?

  21. Josch: If you mean the cropped one in this news article, the one with the glowy eyes which was on the website…. yes, it is by the artist Brom and there is a full version of it that will be released in the future.

  22. final unlock will be a zip file with every prior wallpaper in it.

  23. anyone here got an email confirmation?

  24. Still appears broken. The gallery hasn’t updated in >12 hours. I’m pretty damn sure a bunch of people in the last 12 hours have tried to post banner images.
