Diablo III Beta Patch Notes: Servers Online!


Update: In an interesting twist of events, servers are already online! A full 2.5 hours ahead of schedule.

The patch notes have been posted! There aren’t many exciting changes in the official notes, but it is always possible that UI updates and other aesthetics changes aren’t documented as well. We’ll know for sure when the patch goes live at 9PM PST assuming all goes well.

Diablo III Beta Patch 16 – v.0.10.0.9183

General

  • All characters have been wiped. Please note that this wipe will also affect gold, items, auctions, achievements, followers, and artisans.
  • A new feature has been added that allows players to view their FPS while in game
  • To access this feature, hit Ctrl+R (for PC) or CMD+R (for Mac) while playing
  • The cooldown on swapping skills while in Normal difficulty has been decreased from 15 seconds to 5 seconds

Classes

Barbarian

  • Active Skills
    • DiabloWikiBash
      • “Clobber” rune now has a 35% chance to stun the target for 1.5 seconds
    • DiabloWikiRevenge
      • Heal decreased from 6% to 5%

Demon Hunter

  • Active Skills
    • DiabloWikiCaltrops
      • Discipline cost decreased from 8 to 6
    • DiabloWikiSmoke Screen
      • Discipline cost decreased from 18 to 14
      • Duration decreased from 3 seconds to 2 seconds
      • Now provides a 10% movement speed boost while invisible
      • Can now be used while under the effects of crowd control abilities
      • Using Smoke Screen will break the effects of crowd control, as well as cause your character to be immune to additional crowd control abilities for its duration
    • DiabloWikiVault
      • Discipline cost decreased from 10 to 8

Witch Doctor

  • Active Skills
    • DiabloWikiHaunt
      • Now performs 575% weapon damage over 12 seconds (down from 15 seconds)
    • DiabloWikiSacrifice
      • Weapon damage increased from 200% to 275%

Crafting

  • Gold and material cost for crafting recipes have been adjusted
  • The chance of salvaging Rate materials from Magic items has been increased

Items

  • Class-specific items no longer have the chance to be generated with affixes that cannot be used by that specific class
  • For example, “Increased Hatred Regeneration” will no longer appear on Wands
  • DiabloWikiDemon Hunter one-handed Crossbows have received a damage buff
  • Spirit regeneration on DiabloWikiMonk items has been increased

Monsters

  • Slow, stun, and other movement-impairing effects are now more effective on Treasure Goblins
  • In response, DiabloWikiTreasure Goblins will now sprint away for a moment after being hit
  • Scavenger monsters will now burrow less often
  • Zombies will no longer feast on corpses unless they are full health
  • This is to address an issue which was preventing zombies’ enrage timer from resetting correctly

Bug Fixes
For a full list of documented game and service bugs, please review the Known Issues sticky located in the Beta Bug Report forum.

  • Players can now queue for Public Games on “Reign of the Black King” after killing the Skeleton King
  • Players queuing for a specific Public Games quest should no longer be placed into groups on a different quest
  • Being hit with a knockback ability while using Tempest Rush will no longer disconnect you from Battle.net
  • Placeholder text should no longer appear when looking at deceased Hardcore characters in the Hall of Fallen Heroes
  • There should no longer be a delay when accessing the Auction House
  • The female monk should now properly play her “Not Enough Resources” error message instead of her “Invalid Location” error message when attempting to perform an ability without the required amount of resources available
  • Items with affixes that reduce resource costs will now correctly reduce the minimum amount of a resource required to perform a skill
  • Several Simple and Advanced tooltips have received grammar corrections

  2. These changes don’t sound very interesting. It’s nice that public games should work properly again though.

  3. Hmm…5 second cooldown ? That should be part of the test to find the “right” timing. It was way too long. 15 seemed ok to me. 5 could be too short. That IS an interesting change. Or at least debatable.

    • It seems bizarre to me.  Was someone really sending in bug reports saying that they need to swap skills every 5 seconds and 15 seconds is too long a cooldown? Maybe I just don’t get it,  because I’m not in the beta, but it’s incomprehensible to me why that cooldown should be any shorter than 5 minutes. Even an hour doesn’t seem unreasonable to me.
       

      • Bizarre? not quite, its blizzard making normal even more casual friendly, a 15 second swapping skill cooldown may be discouraging to new players… “15 seconds i cant use a skill now wowww OMG …. ded” <— casual/noob, harsh example. 5 seconds is like nothing though, use another skill then the other is ready.  8)

          Indeed, which is another reason this doesn’t make sense. Why even have a cooldown if it’s only going to be 5 seconds. Either make it a reasonable time that encourages people to make thoughtful decisions about their skills, or just get rid of it and let people do what  they want.

          • Coming from someone in Beta, I can say when you get a new skill or new rune, you like to test it out compared to other ones.  So during a testing phase, you will see that you quickly switch back and forth between skills to see how they look and feel.  Personally, I’d like to see some area IN TOWN where there is NO CD on skill switching.  Somewhere where monsters can’t affect game play.  So I can go back and forth quickly.  Once I get the skill I want, I leave the area, then I dont care how long the CD is…5 minutes, 1 hour, *shrugs*, but at least I know I have the skill I want. Overall, I thought 15 seconds was fine.  I’m shocked they lowered it to 5 for normal.  However, Hardcore is still 15, so I’m okay with that as I’m playing hardcore.

    • it’s only for normal mode.  later modes will still be 15s.

    • They could remove the cooldown entirely if they just put in that vapor thing for all difficulties (it would also make the game feel more interesting). It’s annoying when you get a new rune after leveling that you have to wait 15 seconds to use that skill again. It creates an awkward pause in play right after leveling and breaks your momentum – for no good reason. What does the cooldown really get us? I can still swap my skills right before the skeleton king from AoE to single-target, and the cooldown is meaningless because it takes more than that time to start fighting him.

    • I like this change tbh… for normal that is. Its a pain at low levels playing with skills, having to wait so long

      • unfortunately even in higher difficulties they can’t really add higher CDs to the skills, as it would just  end up being faster to TP to town, swap skills and then TP back.

Nephalem Valor will be the real incentive to not swap skills before bosses, not the cooldowns, so it’s kind of irrelevant whether it’s 5 or 15 seconds or whether or not you can do it faster by teleporting to town. The delays are likely just in place to reduce having a requirement to rapidly change skills outside of that buff and to avoid potential exploitation of certain combinations. Obviously, as the buff only starts at 60, the cooldowns will help to prevent early game min-maxing to some small extent and I imagine the majority of players won’t be bothering with repeated item runs until they hit 60 regardless.
     
    Also, rings still drop from the skeles before SK… and maybe Den of Evil Lvl 2 (unconfirmed??).

  6. There were a lot more skill changes than this, but Blizzard only posts the ones that effect the beta. Many of the runes that gave a chance to stun or fear had their chances to do so increased but the duration decreased to 1.5. Something Blizzard likes about a 1.5 second stun I guess… The damage on many skills was adjusted, Wave of Light was made less expensive, but the line damage part was extremely nerfed, and Hydra’s cost was also reduced a ton with a slight damage reduction across the board as well…

  8. Hm… even though they did a character wipe, my achievements were not wiped. All of banner unlocks I had before are still there.

  11. I’m still of the opinion there should be no cool down for skill changes in town. Anyway, that’s not really a big deal at this point.

    What I would like to see, and they may have done it previously, is deploy a patch in a timely manner which does not include a character wipe. That will be a very big deal once the game goes live and I really hope they have good practices in place by then.

  12. Who still playing the short beta?  i have played this for month ago and cant play it anymore! I need full game if want to play agin, its so boring to play 7 areas agin agin agin agin..

  13. I found this play through with a wizard after patch 16, much harder. Don’t know if this event was already in the beta. I have played many hours and never had it happen. Max leveled each class and a HC toon. Anyway, I was in cathedral level 4 and came across a wizard looking NPC reading a tome on one of the stands you usually see the books on. He told me he didn’t want me reading the tome, and gave me some gold to satisfy my curiosity. (it was 2 gold..OH BOY) So I clicked on the tome anyway, and he says I will regret it, and he changed into an elite/purple named mob that spawned some nasty Carrion bats! Anyone else ever see this before in beta? I also noticed some different types of map features in the cathedral that I have never seen before. There was a crumbled walkway with sand like debris coming from  what would be the roof. Also saw some corpses along a wall that I hadn’t seen before as well. It definitely felt like it was different than any other time.
