Diablo Fan Art Watch #142: Awesome Fan Art + Videos

Welcome friends to the latest installment of the Diablo Fan Art Watch. This week we have a piece by madzematix featuring the 5 classes we know and love facing off against Diablo, Belial, and Azmodan. This also was an entry for a competition held by Gamestar magazine

Mad also posted a directors cut video on his blog (in german) of him working on some of this work. (Below is a translated transcript of what he posted.)

In this collage, the PC game Diablo 3 is devoted to illustrate my current assets of drawings. This is primarily all painted with colored pencil. If I had the picture a bit more processed with Photoshop, I might even have first place in the game Star drawing competition managed. 😉 As pure unfortunately the effort’s not even enough for the short list. After all, some people became aware of me and I will comply with their praise as a reward.

If you enjoy Fan art and want to contribute to this growing community, please stop by the Fan Creations Forum. Many artists visit frequently, posting works in progress looking for feedback and conversation. You don’t have to be “arty” to join in. If you have any questions, comments or have some fan art related news on the web please send me a PM and I’ll get back to you.

The Diablo Fan Art Watch will now also be bi-weekly due to the high volume of incoming fan art. Twice as much art per week.

Thanks to fmulder for the tip. More Videos after the break.

    1. very creative, A+++++++++++++++++  13 days 22 hours 38 mins and 40 seconds left!

    2. New diablo 3 interview on Gamespot , nothing new really , just jay talking about comparison to Torchlight and his fav class

    3. Wow, that speed drawing is incredible.  I’ve never seen anyone draw in segments like that in a speed vid.  He completely finishes that bit before moving on.  Very methodical.  I thoroughly enjoyed those and would recommend any art fans watch them.

    4. I’m not gonna lie, at first glance I was impressed by the drawing – no doubt – but thought it exhibited some inconsistencies. For example, Diablo’s facial expression seems oddly… “excited,” like he’s about to devour a delicious pastry rather than mangle some hero corpses and play with their entrails. The heroes themselves seemed a bit stocky in build and looked more “cartoony” than other more photorealistic aspects of the drawing. I’m particularly bothered by the shading of Diablo’s tail – the artist clearly understands the concept of using progressively lighter shading to indicate vast distance in the landscape, but Diablo’s tail (despite being perhaps hundreds of meters long at the scale of this drawing) is one constant shade of light pink. A gradual transition from darker red to lighter pink would have shown a more realistic sense of depth.

      Having said all that, I then proceeded to watch the video and I was really, truly blown away by the time, effort, and detail put into this creation. The artist is clearly very talented (I can barely draw stick figures, myself :D) and it was really amazing to see how he drew simply colored foundations for objects and proceeded to ornate them with shading, colorful detailing, and intentionally realistic inconsistencies. Very cool. This project in its entirety must have taken many days to complete. I am curious as to how the artist drew the boss figures – was it from memory or copied from an existing image? Either way, it’s a fantastic rendition for all three of the bosses. I particularly like Azmodan.

      I applaud the artist for his efforts, not only to make this drawing, but also for filming it for so many hours. I can only imagine how tough it is to have faith that the drawing will come out the way you want it after working on the same element for so many hours on end. Like many creative endeavors, it must be hard to think objectively when the project goes on for so long. Bravo! A+!

    5. i could draw a lot better hehe nope not joking… but hey did’nt say you’re not good cuz u are 🙂 keep it up
