Diablo 3 Podcast #151: Greater Rifts = HC Death & LGems


Why are players earning more Paragon levels in a month of Seasons than 7 previous months of Reaper of Souls? And Greater Rifts are awesome, but the lure of record times causes a lot of Hardcore deaths. Also, favorite Legendary Gems. Featuring Monstrous, Xanth, and Flux.

  • 0:20 — Intro to Xanth and Monstrous, who okays the game changes to legendary beams and stars/asterisks. A brief survey of the currently sad state of the Barbarian.
  • 5:00 — Seasons. Why have so many players gained more Paragon levels in a few weeks of Seasons than they did in 8 months of RoS before it? Much faster character advancement possible now. New chars are well into Torment levels after a dozen hours!
  • 11:00 — Greater Rifts provide a great long term goal. They are pushing people to really advance, and far more frequent Hardcore deaths than in the old days.
  • 19:00 — Super fast leveling from 1-70 is making the end game so much more accessible. Quick rushing technique tutorial.
  • 25:30 — Greater Rift access via Trial Keys. Time-wasting problems with the current implementation for non-Demon Hunters, with some classes unable to earn high GR keys via the Realm of Trials.
  • 31:50 — Gearing up. How best to go from Normal up to Torment 1, and then advance into the higher Torment difficulties?
  • 37:20 — Solo leveling up with Legendary Gems is amazingly-fun. Even if everyone just gets a cheese to 70 these days. The joy of Boon of the Hoarder, and imagining it without auto-gold pickup? Lazy DHs get free pickup with Ferrets.
  • 47:00 — Legendary Gem random facts and discussion. Why Marauder’s is favored over Taeguk; one works with “hatred spenders” when the skill is no longer a spender, and one doesn’t. Because Blizzard loves Demon Hunters.
  • 50:30 — Diablo 3 Darwin Awards. Collecting the dumbest deaths.
  • 57:30 — Everyone’s favorite Legendary Gems for high level characters. What new LGem is needed to make melee chars equivalent to ranged at the highest GR levels?

    1. BotH can be good for lvling, if u can find yourself a low lvl Custurion wristguard, then all the gold u pick up will = xp

      to easy the running around, averice band to pick it up for – or if u stand in town, gladiator gauntlets with cash falling at your feet for massacres

    2. leveling…I think its important to keep it in the game as it is a great way to learn or relearn a class. That said, once you hit 70 on a class, there should be a way to just push a instant 70 button for that class.

      Once we are 70, I no longer see the point in making us relevel. Losing the gear on our character really is the loss. Most of us have backup gear by this point and most of us are willing to help a clan mate power level. Still, the loss of the primary gear would be very painful. It would be quite a setback. I’m pushing solo 24 grifts and have done a 28 grift in a group.

      Even though I have a full set of Akkhan’s as a backup, they aren’t near as good rolls. And I would lose the good weapon in my build. Getting that back would probably put me back to grift 18-20.

    3. Leveling is the worst. Since builds are not static and you can reset your paragon at will, leveling to 70 has no meaning. Instant 70 button please.
